Commentary: Rider Friday
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – People are aghast that Roughriders great Weston Dressler told the CFL podcast this week that if he had to pick a team to represent in the Hall of Fame between Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, he’d have to think about it.
Rider fans are wondering, “What’s there to think about?” Dressler spent nine of his 12 Hall of Fame years in green.
But you know what folks? Some people don’t forget how they were treated.
I don’t blame Weston one bit.
#2 – Today we will celebrate the life of Hall of Fame Roughriders broadcaster John Lynch (aka John Frenzy) at Broadway United Church at 1 pm.
Frenzy’s stepson Kelly Kirch and I will have some remarks and share some stories, then, at the family’s request, there will be an open mic segment.
What could possibly go wrong?!
#3 – Reiterating that this is the most wonderful time of year. The Oilers took Game 1 of the Western Conference Final, 3-2 over Dallas in double overtime Thursday night, in an absolute nail-biter.
Then the Memorial Cup opens tonight in Saginaw, MI with the WHL champion Moose Jaw Warriors taking on the host Spirit on TSN.
And #4 – Some things never change! Coffee wars are as real as radio wars and beer wars. And I still marvel that the lineup at a Tim Hortons Drive-Thru is at least a block long while the parking lot at a Robin’s Donuts, just a block away, is empty.
The coffee isn’t that much better people! And for me, time is money.
Ohhhhhh I’m back, better than ever.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
Excellent blog here Also your website loads up very fast What web host are you using Can I get your affiliate link to your host I wish my web site loaded up as quickly as yours lol
I get it Weston! People will say “oh just get over yourself” or “that was so long ago”, but stuff like that stings and takes awhile to be forgotten. Weston is one of my favourite riders ever and I don’t blame him. The riders did him a dirty.
We can thank Chris Jones for this mess and for all the Jones fans out there please tell me what we won before he hightailed out of town.
Its like you read my mind You appear to know a lot about this like you wrote the book in it or something I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit but instead of that this is fantastic blog An excellent read I will certainly be back
You are back? ……as far as I’m concerned you never left. – it’s like George Strait sang, “Kicked outta country didn’t hurt a thing/….and country came callin’ again” You should stay for the summer. Do a podcast pre-post Rider games and orchestrate the ratings suck of CKRM. Let their management explain that one to the Big Boss. #1 – Weston Dressler can do as he wishes but what that dwarf doesnt’ realize is this. He’s be bagging groceries in North Dakota if it weren’t for this franchise. Again though we have always had stupid management in that franchise exept for… Read more »
Robb Bagg was great, but not ahead of Weston. Also, I’m sure Weston would’ve been just fine without the riders.
Well it’s a good discussion to educate those who do not know football. Go look at the era roster. – you think Weston Dressler was the straw that stirred the drink? Not even close. You want to know why you know who Weston Dressler is? Start with the D-Line that made sure most of the time it was 2 and out so they could get back on Offense: After that it’s 1st and 10. They start with an O-Line: Best/Clark/Heenan/Fulton/Labatte/Picard – that may as well be a cindercrete wall. They hand off to Kory Sheets, and Neal Hughes is picking… Read more »
Thanks for pointing out it’s a team game and maybe Dressler and Getzlaf made other people look better than they were? Maybe their ability to find an opening in a zone coverage or downfield block allowed for the offence to keep moving the chains and sustain long drives that allowed for their defence to stay fresh and control the time of possession? As for the dwarf comment you made under a different disguise before why are you so mad? At least he played a big boy game at a high level for a long period of time and none of… Read more »
Your blog is a beacon of light in the often murky waters of online content. Your thoughtful analysis and insightful commentary never fail to leave a lasting impression. Keep up the amazing work!
Dressler: I don’t blame him. Unceremoniously dumped, along with DD and Chick by one Chris Jones, whom was hired (cheatingly) by the accountant……..I rest my case. Then Jones NEVER delivered, dumped the Riders, and here we are today. Accountant has to go.
So you’re saying take the approach of 1989. Win a championship and by 1992 because there was no competition or overturn on the roster end up with a geriatic unit. That’s when day care ends and guys like Don Mathews get the call to come and take over – he’s the guy that sent Richie Hall packing and by 1998 Jim Daley sent Bobby Jurasin packing….so you carry this ax to grind all because your smart phone generation knew absolutely nothing about the organization up until 2007 when all the heavy lifting was completed. Not one of those guys went… Read more »
You’re not speaking for everyone. For me #7 is still Weston Dressler’s number. Fajardo wore it and Harris now has it, but to me it’s still WD7.
Thank you for the auspicious writeup It in fact was a amusement account it Look advanced to far added agreeable from you However how can we communicate
