It’s Wednesday which means Random Thoughts day on this commentary. Here we go!:

#1 – The NHL’s annual Frozen Frenzy seemed to be a success! (Depending on your favourite team). Tuesday was the only day of the year where all 32 teams played and it was a trip.

Like Christmas, Frozen Frenzy is best to be saved for just one day out of the year.

#2 – I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that Frozen Frenzy lined up against Opening Night in the NBA. It seems like dirty pool but some people like the competition, I guess. Personally I feel like if both leagues worked together and cross-promoted, they could actually enhance their profiles and sell even more tickets.

But judging by the leagues’ bulging bottom lines, they’re doing just fine the way it is.

#3 – The Recovery industry does not work this way. I’m often asked how I’ve found such success in the fields of Mental Health and Addiction Recovery and always reply that it’s by “working together”.

It’s like the acronym of T.E.A.M.: “Together Everyone Achieves More!”

But hey – there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

#4 – Speaking of the NBA, the Miami Heat begin their 37th season tonight when they welcome the Orlando Magic to Kaseya Center.

They’re all abuzz about the game here in South Florida as, apparently, they’ll be honoring franchise icon Pat Riley prior to the game; even adding his name to the court, I’m told.

I love the NBA for a variety of reasons but the biggest is that I can just go and be a fan. Nobody expects me to analyze anything, nor be some sort of insider or predictor.

And #5 – Speaking of that, we’re entering the final week of the CFL regular season and of the four games, the Game of the Week is Saturday’s Winnipeg-at-Montreal clash.

If the Bombers win it, they’ll clinch first and the later game featuring Calgary at Sask will be meaningless. However should the Bombers lose, the Riders will have the chance to clinch first with a win.

But Winnipeg will win. You can take that to the bank.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
