Commentary: The Capital

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – It’s NHL Trade Deadline Day and it’s not just me; TSN’s Darren Dreger agrees this one has been the most captivating in decades.
Why? Because some really big names are on the block including Seth Jones (who went to Florida) and Brock Nelson (who went to Colorado) and the biggest fish of them all, Mikko Rantanen (who’s waiting to be traded out of Carolina).
The only problem is with the advent of social media and the high number of whackos out there just trying to cause crap, there’s more Fake News flying around than ever before.
So for that reason, I’ll be real glad when the deadline is over Friday afternoon.
#2 – Don’t look now, but the hottest two teams in the NHL reside in Florida. The Panthers have won 10 of 12 and the Lightning have won 11 of 13.
I’m told the TSN panel tabbed Florida as the “Centre of the Hockey Universe” on Wednesday night’s Leafs broadcast.
What can I say? I’ve always been the benefactor of great timing.
Very grateful!
#3 – The football fans are finding the time long. NFL teams are slashing aging, high-priced vets and that’s setting up an exciting free agency period in the days ahead. The CFL is preparing for the National Combine in Regina March 21-23. That might be fun to watch live.
Speaking of, I’ll be spending the weekend on football fields across Florida taking in USA Flag and 7-on-7 high school games. They’re starting to like hockey, but it’s still the football capital of the world.
And #4 – I respect and admire those who are into every pitch and at-bat for the Blue Jays in spring training. I used to be that guy, as a kid. But for now, there’s just too much other stuff going on (although the latest Vladdy news is juicy)!
And am very grateful for that as well. Have a nice weekend.

Just an FYI as Roughriders CEO Craig Reynolds virtue signals International Woman’s Day.
29 out of 41 leadership positions within the Saskatchewan Football Club’s managment structure are women.
…..maybe this is a starting point as to why this team can’t get sustained success and are losers that haven’t won anything since he came along.
For the boys out there; when a woman says she has to work twice as hard….she shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
