It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: There really is a pulpable vibe in Toronto on a Leafs home game day. My flight home from Sask went through Hogtown on Monday and included a four-hour layover.

That didn’t bother me at all! I reveled in sitting in a Tim Hortons, watching the Leafs fans stroll by as they’d flown in from across the country for the game, and browsed the Toronto sports store in the airport.

I’ve never been a Leaf fan and never will, but I can appreciate what that franchise has going on. Then they went out and throttled Tampa Bay 5-2.

Next the great: That sports banquet I hosted in Wolseley on the weekend grossed over $103,000 making it #2 all-time for events I’ve worked.

The organizers said, “Lorne Molleken was great but you and Poley were magic together!”

I know how to push the Polecat’s buttons and it dawned on me that the two of us could slay on the rubber chicken circuit. The infamous Rider long-snapper may have retired over 30 years ago, but there is absolutely no one funnier nor more entertaining than the Prairie River, SK product.

Meanwhile I’ve been doing more and more Rider-themed events and dang it feels good! It seems to make the crowd feel good too.

That’s just great.

And finally the ugly: Getting a vehicle to go to Wolseley was a nightmare! I was based in Moose Jaw and the car rental company called on Saturday and said despite my reservation, they had no cars. All other rental outlets were either closed, or out of cars too!

I borrowed my manager’s vehicle but it blew a tire just east of the city Saturday afternoon. In a panic, I asked the lady at the gas station if they had a tow truck and she responded in broken English, “No – but we have UHaul!”

I said I’ll take it! Just like that, I was off to Wolseley in the nick of time. Truth be told, I’d have walked if I had to.

In retrospect, I guess it wasn’t that ugly at all.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Had the U Haul not been available. Akin to Plains Trains & Automobiles there is a farmer’s son “Owen” out there with a pregnant skinny wife that would have loade you up in the back of the truck bed and got you there. That’s the real Saskatchewan. If we want to keep it the choice is clear. Keep moving ahead or had Saskatchewan back over to the following: NDP Social Workers, Union Mafiosos, Malcontents, Drug Addicts, Homeless, Social Justice Warriors and those who simply enjoy watching the world burn to the ground. Putting them in charge of a $35B economy… Read more »

It’s interesting that three Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Play By Play men later; those 3 are not invited and couldn’t raise flies on dog $!** let alone money.

Keep up the great work. Same deal where are all the “new” Roughriders/Alumni that should be doing this stuff.

They are to busy virtue signally versus meeting the folks.

Coming from the TKSHHOF, I know Rod is an AWESOME host!! Our induction supper raised over $60,000 to go to Hockey Sask, Swift Current Minor Hockey, and Southwest Facility Foundation. Our city is in dire need of a new pool so THANKS Rod for helping these communities raise money to achieve their goals!!! Wolseley was lucky to have him as anywhere he goes is pure entertainment 🙂
