It’s Tuesday and you know what that means – time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: It’s good if you’re an Oilers fan. Bad if you’re a fan of everybody else.

After reaching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last season, the Oilers have fallen into the trap of being bored right now and just waiting for the playoffs to start.

They fell behind 2-1 at home to Seattle last night before rallying with three straight to win 4-2. They did the same thing at Chicago not long ago.

The Florida Panthers are going through the same thing. They’re bored, and just waiting for the playoffs.

Trust me, it’s good.

Next the great: On Monday I celebrated my 10-year sober anniversary. But unlike the past nine anniversaries, I spent no time thinking about what happened 10 years ago, what rock bottom looked like and what was going on back then.

It was a different time, a different life, and I’m a totally different person now. (Even became an Ordained Minister over the weekend so I can perform weddings in the State of Florida!)

It is allllllll great.

Keep moving forward and for God’s sake, don’t stay stuck.

And finally the ugly: It’s the calm before the storm. The tidal wave of criticism crashing up against the NFL due to onesided officiating seems to have taken a break since Sunday night’s AFC championship game.

In that one, the Kansas City Chiefs continued to get the breaks on the way to a 3-point win over Buffalo to earn the chance to win a third straight Super Bowl.

I wondered how the NFL was going to get around the controversy, without addressing it directly. On Monday we found out.

You see, the NFL owns its own TV and radio stations (NFL Network & NFL Radio) and they’ve instructed their on air staff to steer the discussion away from officiating and towards Super Bowl XLIX.

Hey – it’s not even wrong! If I was in their shoes, I’d probably do the exact same thing.

It’s just the way it is now, and I’m glad to have finally figured it out.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Good deal Rod and keep inspiring us by moving forward. As for the Oilers: I had mentioned Conor McDavid take a page out of Dino Cicarelli’s book and crosscheck to the point the only thing keeping a guy’s head on are tendons. With that stated there is precendent for Superstars. The kids may not recall but can look it up on Youtube. Vancouver Canuck’s superstar Pavel Bure had enough. Regardless if he had Gino Odjyk on his team he took matters into his own hands. People can look up the mother of all elbows. I thought Messier on Nattress was… Read more »
