Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

It’s Tuesday and time for … the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: While channel surfing last night I stopped on the World Flag Football championships being held in Tampa Bay, hosted by USA Flag Football, and televised on CBS Sports Network.
I’ll always feel a connection to that sport after having called that particular event two summers ago in Charlotte.
Lo and behold, the mens teams were stacked with several former pro and college players, including former Roughrider receiver Ricky Collins Jr. (2017-18).
The competition was fierce, and the crowd included Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, who sponsors a flag league all across South Florida.
This sport is real, and great for TV. It’s also so good that these top-flight players have a way to keep their careers going on a big stage. Next stop, the Summer Olympics in LA!
Next the great: Did anyone catch the Tonight Show last night? Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk was the special guest of Jimmy Fallon, and was his usual charming self.
Frankly I haven’t been a regular late night viewer since Letterman went off the air but you can’t deny what a boon P.R. like that is for the NHL.
If you didn’t catch it live, it’s not hard to find.
And finally the Ugly: When this is all said and done, a great deal of healing is going to need to be done.
On Monday’s RP Show, I didn’t want to talk about Wayne Gretzky at all but the viewers had other ideas. My support of #99 is well-known but it’s clear a lot of my friends feel completely the opposite.
We’re all going to need to agree to disagree on things, because it’s clear peoples’ minds won’t be changed.
Meanwhile I was shocked to see CFL Hall of Famer and TSN analyst Matt Dunigan throw out a Tweet on Monday in support of the Great One. I’m assuming the pair has a friendship dating back to their time in Edmonton in the 80s.
Who knows? Who cares?
Be sure not to let this latest hot button issue ruin your friendships.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Mattie forgets who signs his pay cheques! Maybe he can get a job working for Musk or Trump. They don’t care about Canada either!
