Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It seems the world was watching the Blue Jays/Pirates last night – which I’ll get to in a minute – while I was watching Monday Night Football.
Hey, you can’t watch everything.
You wouldn’t think an August preseason showdown between the Bengals and Commanders would grab your attention but it did! Sophomore Washington QB Jayden Daniels’ rushing touchdown was the highlight of a 31-17 loss but Joe Burrow started for Cinci on the other side.
My guy Troy Aikman observed on the broadcast that NFL teams are using their vets more in exhibition games, making for more entertaining matches. The Cowboys great feels there will be much more of that moving forward since the NFL is a copycat league.
Sign me up.
Next the great: They’ve been talking about this Showdown In Cowtown for weeks — the 8-1 Roughriders at the 6-3 Stampeders on Saturday. It’ll be the biggest crowd at McMahon Stadium in years, and is a battle of the top two teams in the CFL West.
It’s been years since we’ve had a showdown of this magnitude between these two teams in the Foothills.
Should be great!
And finally the ugly: Social media was abuzz last night over the benches clearing in the seventh inning of the Blue Jays-Pirates game. The Pirates’ Tommy Pham flipped his bat after drawing a walk and that drew the ire of Jays catcher Tyler Heineman. He said something to the Pittsburgh outfielder which caused a brief confrontation and caused teammates to scurry in for back-up.
And then it was over. The whole clip took about 15 seconds! I was prepared for much more ugliness.
And the real good news is searching for the clip online took barely anymore time than the altercation itself.
Thank goodness for technology, and that’s my takeaway from it all.
