Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: it’s time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It’s going to be a fun Fall. The Blue Jays lead the A-L East and are now favored to win pretty much every game they play. Their 77 wins are second-most in the American League and they’re the top World Series betting favourite in the A-L.
What could go wrong? It’s already a fun ride. Can’t imagine how fun it’s gonna get …
Next the great: We are headed into Labour Day Weekend, a.k.a. “the second-best weekend of the football calendar” yearly. The CFL match-ups are marquee and it’s also Week 1 of the College Football season. In this 60th LDC in Regina, it’s fairly rare to have Saskatchewan and Winnipeg both be as good as they are on second half kickoff weekend. So it should be a doozy.
What’s great is that I’m almost as geeked up for the College Football game of the year Saturday in Columbus. Arch Manning and his #1-ranked Texas Longhorns visit the defending national champion OSU Buckeyes. The Longhorns are coached by former Roughrider, and my good friend Steve Sarkisian.
Yes, this is all great.

And finally the ugly: I flipped on the TV this morning and the first thing I saw on Sportscentre was the TSN pundits rambling on about the Dallas Cowboys. Again.
With Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson and Washington’s Terry McLaurin signing big deals and ending their holdouts this week, that leaves just the Dallas Cowboys and star player Micah Parsons as the last contract stalemate.
How nice. It’s already been a long season in Dallas and it hasn’t even kicked off yet. Please watch the Dallas Cowboys documentary on Netflix called “America’s Team” and tell me what you think of it.
So many have already, and are saying that Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones seems like a real nice guy!
Ya? Try doing business with him.

Hi Rod, please pardon my ignorance but what is the best weekend on the football calendar? i enjoy your columns
Either Banjo Bowl/NFL Kickoff weekend or NFL Division Playoff weekend!
The Cowboys Documentary.
All I can tell people is it is similar to Jeff Pearlman’s Press Box Chronicles. You had to be there during the era.
Word to the wise for today’s players. Hotel Rooms are a bad deal. Follow Michael Irvin’s example and invest in a White House.
Without Jerry Jones none of these guys would have made it as far as they did or have the name recognition.
The best line is when Barry Switzer says, “you’re not gonna put this on me.”
He was the actual adult in the room.
These are all great men.
