It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly …
First the good: Today is the one week mark of the NHL regular season and the action has been fast and furious. Quick – who are the only three teams without a loss yet?
The answer: Carolina, Dallas and Seattle.
Meanwhile there are three teams still without a win: Buffalo, San Jose and the Islanders.
The Blackhawks got off the snide with a 3-1 home win over Utah on Monday, and I saw friends from Regina at the game to watch Connor Bedard, who was held off the scoresheet.
But it sounds like a new contract for Connor and the ‘Hawks is imminent.
Next the great: It’s a jumbled up ending to the CFL regular season but it comes with plenty of intrigue. Week 19 closed on Thanksgiving Day with Montreal beating Ottawa 30-10, keeping the Alouettes’ chances of finishing first alive with two weeks ago.
They’re a win behind Hamilton for top spot in the East and have two games left. The Ticats have one remaining, against Ottawa, and should they win it, they’ll clinch first.
Man it was amazing to see Percival Molson Stadium in Montreal jammed for the clash. They love a winner in La Belle Province.
But the Edmonton crowd on Saturday was gross – had to be less than 10,000 – and as a league, you’re only as strong as your weakest link.
And finally the ugly: The Blue Jays head to Seattle with their backs against the wall in the ALCS after dropping the opening two games 3-1 and 10-3 at a raucous Rogers Centre. Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt said postgame that there’s nothing to panic about however I beg to differ! The Jays are now 0-4 all-time in playoff games against Seattle and now the next three are in the Mariners’ park, if it goes that far.
Normally I’m one to say “leave the coaching to the coaches” but Jays skipper John Schneider pulling his starters so early in the first two games has left him open to A LOT of valid criticism. Maybe the fans are right sometimes!
Oh well — as Yoga Berra famously said, it’s not over till it’s over.

Whoever is paying the tab for all things Edmonton Elks they are throwing away their money on a losing venture, it’s not viable to anyones pocket book. That cfl franchise looks to be on its last legs as far as fan attendance is concerned.
