COMMENTARY: TIME TO MOVE ON

A coupla three or so thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – They’re a funny thing, those grudges. The Patrick Roy/Montreal Canadiens rift goes back to 1996 but King Roy returned to the Bell Centre Thursday night with his New York Islanders. (They hired him as coach on the weekend).

The hiring of Roy proved he hasn’t been banished by the NHL and the three ovations he received before puck drop proves he’s still beloved in Montreal.

But not by the Habs, who continually look past Roy when hiring coaches and GMs despite his success at every level, as a player, coach and GM.

It’s odd how these things go, and it’s clear we’ll never know the details as to why the Canadiens can’t get over it because Patrick says he has.

I guess that’s why they came up with the phrase, “Move on.”

#2 – Big news in the CFL this week with John Hufnagel stepping down as President of the Calgary Stampeders, to make way for former player Jay McNeil; a Ted Danson lookalike.

McNeil’s been on the RP Show before as V.P. of Business with the Stampeders and he’s been making the Calgary media rounds this week. He said he listens to the fans, and they say they want a new stadium, and cheaper beer.

One of those wishes should be easy to grant, and the other impossible.

McNeil says the CFL is making a comeback and the Stampeders will be at the forefront of it.

I hope he’s right but talk’s cheap! It will be fun to discuss this today on the RP Show’s Football Friday.

And #3 – More proof that the “buzz” out there really is just a bunch of bunk. On Thursday night the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons hired Raheem Morris as their new head coach, electing to pass on the legendary Bill Belichick.

It really is sending shockwaves through the NFL because it appears when the music stops on this game of “Coaching Job Musical Chairs”, Belichick won’t have a chair.

The reports out of Atlanta say the Falcons passed because Bill wanted complete control. At his age, they weren’t comfortable giving it to him.

So now it appears it’s another case of … time to move on.

My comment disappeared:)

I think I am not fitting this format anymore for commentary being perhaps a little to truthful and or harsh.

All good and completely understand. I had a helluva run. The world has changed and this platform feeds a wider scope and answers to higher levels now. As George Strait sang and I’ll apply it to myself: “It happened to Jones and even The Hag Waylon and Willie and the great Johnny Cash/ Kicked ’em right out without even a word/ But that ain’t the end of the story I heard ‘Cause Cash stomped out the footlights And Haggard for long had a ball And Willie and Waylon and Kris toured the nation And Jones never showed up at all… Read more »

Harsh? Your beyond harsh, you’re a rude, crude, vile racist and mysogynist with totally outdated opinions nobody wants to read. Your views on this world wide top rated Rod Pedersen blog site are ruining it’s credibility, It’s highly apparent Mr. Pedersen puts a lot of work into his media product but you are a disrespectful person. It was about time Mr. Pedersen put his foot down with you whoever you are.

More CFL news; Canadian Football League Commissioner Randy Ambrosie is hallucinating once again, he’s talking gibberish about a rich person in Atlantic Canada with deep money pockets ready to invest in a CFL franchise on the East coast. Randy! there’s no stadium out there and the people out there have limited interest in the CFL with zero interest wasting money building a venue capable of sustaining a pro team long term, get it through your thick skull, the majority of people out there don’t want your daydreams! A better option would be to put all your energy into a Quebec… Read more »

When will Randy learn that every time he opens his mouth about expansion he makes the CFL look ridiculous.

Memo to Randy: STOP TALKING ABOUT EXPANSION UNLESS YOU ARE ANNOUNCING AN EXPANSION TEAM, WITH AN ACTUAL STADIUM.

Belichick had better check his ego and demands at door IF he even gets another interview from anyone , otherwise he isn’t catching Shula and that’s all he really wants.
