Commentary: Ugly With A Capital U

It’s time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly and today we have some good ones!

First the good: Six underdogs won on the second Sunday of the NFL season and the trend continued on Monday Night Football with the Atlanta Falcons upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles 22-21 at The Link.

If there’s one thing leagues want, it’s parity. And unpredictability. That’s what the NFL has so far this year.

And I’m particularly happy for the Falcons, as the RP Show airs on Atlanta radio and those are good sports fans down there. It looks like they may actually have a team.

Next the great: Sidney Crosby signed a new deal on Monday that’ll keep him in Pittsburgh for three more seasons.

Get this: Sid The Kid was born on 08-07, in 1987, and has always worn #87.

And his contract extension is for $8.7-million per season.

I’ve never been a Penguins fan but I love watching Crosby play and when they came through Sunrise last season, Sid was their hardest-working, and best, player on the ice.

I’m guesting on all these NHL shows now and they say how much Crosby’s hated in places like Detroit and Washington but all he’s ever done is his job. And win.

They’re the ones with the problem, not him.

And lastly the ugly: Speaking of problems, the BC Lions have a big one at the quarterback position.

Things seemed to be rolling fine out of the gate for BC with Vernon Adams behind centre but then the team doled out big cash to land Nathan Rourke upon his return from the NFL.

Since then, Rourke’s lost more than he’s won and was given the hook in Friday’s blowout home loss to Toronto.

What the heck did the NFL do to Rourke, because he doesn’t seem like the same player at all?

Now the Lions have four games left and if things don’t straighten out, they could miss the playoffs altogether. This, in a year where they’re hosting the Grey Cup.

And that’s Ugly with a capital U.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)

I had the privilege and it is a privilege to watch Sidney Crosby with my own eyeballs in 2018 in Ottawa. God was showing off when he created that hockey player. When Gretzky retired in 1999 he stated the hockey player of the future will not resemble anything seen before or since. Crosby is what happens when you go to a lab and mix Bryan Trottier/Ron Francis/Steve Yzerman with sprinkles of Sergie Federov. Perfection and completion. He and Ovechkin changed hockey and are now the standard. So this Mt. Rushmore b.s – keep it as is. There is Mt Olympus… Read more »

The NFL didn’t do a thing to “Throwa Parks” – he’s just another spoiled rotten milenial that my guess had the path greased his entire life – so dominate in Canada (most likely Dad was the Coach) – use resources to get to a private academy, then play in a low end league Ohio where he could again dominate – then use the passport to get onto a CFL roster which he now has to play his way off of. You will see what happens to people when adversity hits – after being Mr. Big Time, well now these coaches… Read more »
