Commentary: Edmonton Deserves Better
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All Nezw Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or so thoughts entering the weekend:
#1 – I’ll quote Chris Jones when it comes to the current state of the Edmonton CFL franchise.
“It’s as bad as I’ve seen.”
Jones has used that phrase in the past when referring to games but I’ll use it in reference to the 0-4 Elks, who remained winless after a last-second loss in BC on Thursay night.
There have been so many losses in Edmonton post-Covid that I’ve lost count.
In fact, I honestly can’t recall a CFL franchise being worse off than how the once-mighty Edmonton team is now.
And there’s been a lot of bad ones.
#2 – Not sure what Edmonton did to deserve this, but the Oilers are in trouble too. Sure they made it to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup but, unlike their Florida counterparts, there’s no sense they’ll get back to the Cup anytime soon.
GM Ken Holland’s contract expires on Sunday and he’s walking away.
And the word I got from his people this week is that it’s Ken’s decision, not the Oilers.
He’s got other opportunities on the table, or he may just retire to Vernon, BC.
You can make your own assumptions on how it got to this point.
And #3 – I’ve decided against returning to Florida for Sunday’s Stanley Cup parade in Fort Lauderdale. History won’t remember whether I was there or not and truthfully, I’d rather enjoy a Canada Day long weekend in Saskatchewan. That’ll include a Rattlers game in Saskatoon on Saturday, a Millers baseball game in Moose Jaw on Monday, and facetime with my friends and relatives.
Because that’s what I want to do.

3) If I were the CFL – I’d be very nervous. I said many times when you go woke you go broke. Meanwhile CEBL for the cost and entertainment it’s the best thing around. The second best sport: Dana White’s Power Slap. It’s on Youtube and this is what will restore humanity to greatness. 2) Conor McDavid I have a feeling his career if he stays in Edmonton will resemble Marcel Dionne. A guy like that can’t play for a franchise where it’s constant churn for GM and then Head Coaches. He needs to take the direction of Nathan MacKinnon… Read more »
Your agenda never changes. You may consider yourself Mississippi North. I would choose another pathway.
