COMMENTARY: WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s a match made in heaven; that NFL, Las Vegas & Super Bowl.
And like any blooming relationship that took years to consummate, the couple’s friends are saying, “What took you so long?”
I can’t take credit for the parallel or metaphor. Sports Illustrated had a great expose on this concept which I read on the 5 ½ hour flight out here to Nevada but once I got here, the article just made perfect sense.
The NFL’s Raiders moved from Oakland to Las Vegas four years ago and it only took three years for the League to put the Super Bowl here.
I’m surprised it even took that long.
And as you can imagine, the Strip is teeming with football fans from around the world. Some even care who wins Sunday’s NFL championship game between Kansas City and San Francisco at the beautiful Allegiant Stadium! (The 49ers remain favoured by 2-points)
But more than anything, it’s about the party and nobody does it better than Las Vegas.
I’ve been here many times and never seen it so busy, however it’s not obscene. At least not yet.
Lineups? You may have to wait behind three or four people to get a drink, or 5-10 minutes for an Uber but if you can’t handle that, you should just stay home. But if you look it up, hotels and flights are reasonable if you still want to get here.
Vegas has made it affordable to attend, and hundreds of thousands of people have taken advantage. Maybe into the millions.
As my accountant says, “Pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered.”
Now … we’re still days out from Sunday’s Super Bowl so there’s still a chance this thing will go into Beast Mode and we truly will have a sight Vegas has never seen.
But by then, I’ll have moved my things to my friend’s house in nearby Summerlin and we’ll just be hearing about the madness from his hottub.
I have learned a few things along the way.
