I’ve gotta say, in this instance, the CFL won.

While deliberating on what to discuss on today’s commentary, I looked down and saw an email from CFL headquarters promoting this Saturday’s Division Semifinal games. It was entitled, “Primer #1”.

In a sports world clamouring for our attention every minute of every day – with endless content from the NFL, NHL, MLB and more – the CFL got mine today.

And when I clicked on the email and read through, I got all those warm feelings that the CFL provides.

What more do you need to know than Hamilton visits Montreal on Saturday and it’s Bo Levi Mitchell going for the Ticats against Cody Fajardo and the Alouettes?

Talk about a villain and a hero.

It’s also a battle of two scorned quarterbacks trying to prove their old teams wrong. Only one will this weekend!

The Ticats and Als met last year in this game as well, only Trevor Harris and Caleb Evans were the quarterbacks. Montreal thumped them.

Out West, Calgary is at BC on Saturday and another season-high crowd is expected for this one. These teams met last year in this game, in this place, only it was Nathan Rourke who led BC to a shebockalling of the Stampeders.

However Rourke’s long gone to the NFL now and Vernon Adams Junior is the one who led BC to another home playoff game. Now is V.A.’s chance to prove once and for all that he’s an adequate replacement for Rourke.

Are you a Seinfeld fan? Do you remember the character David Puddy? I was reminded of him during a conversation at Sunday’s Dolphins game in the luxury suites.

One of those rich guys I was with looked me in the eye and said, “You mean to say if you had the choice between an NFL game or a CFL game, you’d take the CFL?”

I looked back at him and said, “Ya that’s right.”

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

We talk the CFL all day long and twice on Sunday. NFL reminds me of parties long ago and standing there wondering why these people are popular. They are so vapid and bland Psssst the NFL took off because society gets worse and worse every year. It replace God on Sunday. The devil does this by giving people what they want not what they need What do they want? It isn’t boring 4 down football where besides me; Tony Romo is the other guy that can call the plays before they come. No people wanted gambling, liquor, sloth. While they… Read more »

Two things I don’t care for in the NFL game. 1) Useless kickoffs that are 99% touchbacks. Rarely a runback…boring! I hope they adopt the XFL format, or at least move the kickoff back 5 or 10 yards. 2) Spiking the ball to stop the clock during 2 minute drills. Too much mayhem to see players running to the new line of scrimmage. Two things I don’t care for in the CFL game: 1) No points for overtime losses. Come on! The game was tied after regulation! You should be able to walk away with at least 1 point. 2)… Read more »

I agree with you Jeff but I’d add on that the NFL overtime rules suck whereas the CFL overtime rules are just right.
