Regina, SK – For the second consecutive night, the Prince Albert Raiders (32-25-9-4) fell in a shootout. This time, they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Regina Pats (39-25-5-1) on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre.
With the extra time loss, the Raiders extended their point streak to 11 consecutive games.
For the Pats, it was their sixth straight win.
The Raiders opened the scoring midway through the first period. Curtis Miske fed Jordy Stallard on a two-on-one rush and the Raiders leading scorer made no mistake. It was the Winnipeg Jets draft pick’s 44th goal of the campaign.
The lead held until the 4:51 mark of the second period. Sam Steel solved Curtis Meger when he banked a puck in off of the Raiders’ goaltender.
Regan Nagy restored the Raiders’ lead with 8:36 to play in the second. On another odd-man rush, Parker Kelly dragged the puck around a sliding Aaron Hyman and centred it for Nagy, who one-timed it past Max Paddock.
In the third, the Pats tied the game. Cameron Hebig buried a second chance opportunity on a shorthanded rush at the 11:51 mark.
The two teams traded chances in the overtime period. Kelly and Brayden Pachal were both stopped early by Paddock. Late in the extra frame, Curtis Meger made a big save on Josh Mahura to send the game to the shootout.
In the shootout, Jesse Gabrielle scored the only goal to give the Pats the win. Stallard, Kody McDonald, and Kelly were all turned aside for Paddock.
Meger made 33 saves in his first start since February 17. Paddock stopped 31 shots for the win.
**The Pats are next in action Friday when they host the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00 pm on Access 7 and 620 CKRM.
