CORNISH TO SIX GAME INJURY LIST

The Calgary Stampeders have placed national running back Jon Cornish on the six-game injury list. The reigning Most Outstanding Player in the Canadian Football League has been out of action since suffering a concussion in a Week 1 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

Cornish would be eligible to return on Sept. 6 when the Stamps play in Edmonton although the team has the right to activate him prior to that date if the situation allows.

“Jon continues to make progress in his recovery but we understand the importance of being extremely careful with this type of injury and we want to make sure Jon has all the time he needs to get completely healthy,” said Stampeders general manager and head coach John Hufnagel. “We look forward to having Jon back in the lineup and, in the meantime, other players have stepped up in his absence. I’m confident that will continue to be the case.”

Not a Cornish fan but in my mind this situation is ridiculous in that Kyries Hebert, who gave Cornish a cheap shot was not suspended for a very dirty hit. The fact that players cannot be suspended in the CFL is a joke.

The CFL has in fact suspended players for their dirty performance. If you all remember 2 years ago BC's D-tackle Khalif Mitchell was suspended 2 games for intentionally trying to hurt EE O-lineman RottierThe fact's were simple in the Khalif incident as that was not a football tackle or even a football move. However bad we might think Kyries Hebert's tackle was. In fact it was an injury that happened in a football play. Had Kyries Hebert's arm been 6 inches lower the concussion wouldnt have happened. Both players were going full speed. The league can not and will not… Read more »

As much as I didn't like Jon Cornish, I've actually started to turn the corner on him as a human – but only a little. Part of that might have been the stories on him working a teller job at TD Canada Trust on the side (talk about swallowing pride as a noteworthy athlete in the country) and taking financial services courses to set himself up for life after football. I respect that side of him. He won't be a football player who has nothing to turn to when he hangs them up. I'm actually fairly disappointed in the CFL… Read more »

Intent is the key. When the hit happened my reaction was 'no one can say whether he simply misjudged the hit'. Many bad hits are the same. We watch in slow motion and judge … totally unfair.

How can people not like Cornish? Best player in league and a Canadian. People on this site have no idea what good football is. Clueless.
