TORONTO (CP) – The Toronto Argonauts have acquired international defensive back Dwight Anderson from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2015 CFL Draft.

Anderson has won two Grey Cup championships with Calgary (2008) and Saskatchewan (2013). He has been named a CFL all-star twice and a divisional all-star four times.

In eight CFL seasons with Hamilton, Calgary, Montreal and Saskatchewan, the native of Spanish Town, Jamaica has amassed 343 defensive tackles, 19 interceptions, four interception return touchdowns, seven fumble recoveries, one sack and 11 special teams tackles.

“Dwight Anderson is a veteran player who can help our team immediately,” Argos general manager Jim Barker said in a statement. “He’s a competitor who has won two Grey Cup championships and has been recognized as an all-star on multiple occasions in our league.”

Prior to playing in the CFL, Anderson spent time with the St. Louis Rams and the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL. He played in three NFL games for the Rams, amassing five tackles.

Rider head coach Corey Chamblin addressed the trade Monday morning at Mosaic Stadium.  Here are some of his quotes:

CC:  “I deal moreso with energy and it’s not whether it’s positive or negative energy.  You’ve got to look at timing and a lot of different things.  I think his end was justified meaning he did what he came to do and that’s to win a championship.  I’ll use the Geroy Simon thing … he came to help us win a championship and that was last year’s championship.  This is a brand new team and sometimes when you try to mix some things, sometimes it takes a little bit longer.  That’s where we are.  Let’s go all new and go from here and see what we have.  It’s not a negative.  When you look at timing and certain things, we’re not trying to win the 2013 Grey Cup.  It’s been won.  And I don’t think you can repeat it.  We gotta find what’s going to win the 2014 Grey Cup.”

CC:  “It’s about bringing new leaders.  He did have a voice but it’s time to bring a new voice.  You look at the captains — our captains have changed and each week I rotate the captain.  It’s about getting new voices and leaders.  We always talk about Darian but there’s a guy like Tyron Brackenridge too.  It’s about getting new stars and new leaders and that’s what it comes down to.  At some point we have to turn it over to new stars and new leaders.”

Locker room issues? Or do we have that much depth at DB. Maybe a combo of both. Green should be able to step into that role just fine.

Most likely a combination of age, cap hit and the fact that he played like s*** on Saturday. Overall he's just a distraction, c ya l8r DA….good riddance!

Well that's an interesting turn of affairs. Did D.A. request a trade? More info please.

I think it was probably a combination between a locker room incident, he lost a step and the Riders depth at DB. I always liked the fire DA provided to the team. However there is an expiry date on these players and you don't keep a guy like him around if he's not at the top of his game.

Something has clearly happened between the past game and now. This is a little disappointing as it doesn't seem like we really got anything worthwhile in return for a top tier DB.

Hope the Argos also picked up his gameday paycheque. Only fair.

You would think so, but…. Roughriders most probably on the cuff for his salary in some some form or mattern. Good riddance ! The salary cap clean up of last years 2013 GC championship a good thing for the franchise.

This a statement from Taman and Chamblin. Even though Chamblin and Anderson go way back to Calgary together. The Riders coaching staff will not accept sub par play and then not be accountable. Dwight hasn't done anything so far this early season to show that he deserves the money he's getting. Plus the game in Toronto it almost looked like Dwight was playing for the Argos.
I hope this sends a message to those who want to remain in a Green and White. Step up and play like Champions and be a leader not a distractor.

Thanks for the help winning the Grey Cup. He was a major factor last season.

It wasn't sub par performance. In the two games teams don't go to his side of the field. In fact against Hamilton the secondary were lights out.

The message is this team can lose 48-15 without Vets. I will say this, I didn't like D.A in Calgary, but when he was with Saskatchewan he was really fun to watch. He was a huge part of 2013, but that era is now over.

Chamblin and Taman are using the tried and true Don Mathews method of cutting a veteran and putting everyone on notice. It will work.

It’ll be interesting to see who the Riders bring in.

Macho Harris, Marshay Green and Paul Woldu are the other 3 DB’s on the Riders roster, including the practice roster. Woldu is a corner only and can’t play HB, and I’m not sure that Harris or Green are HB’s either.

A certain Roughrider still has a court date because of Anderson's leadership. Nuff said.

No denying DA helped get the grey cup last year, but he also detracted at various times throughout. The detraction side finally outweighed the benificial side. Thanks for your help, see ya!

I heard rumour (again totally just a rumour) that DA got into a verbal altercation with Chick on the sidelines and threw a water bottle at him. The news is that Anderson and a couple other Riders were out partying a bit the night before. Again this is just what I've heard. May be complete crap.

The Argos are now his 5th CFL team. In other words he's wore his welcome out at four places.

@Cap,

You're full of crap. If they chose J.C over D.A then that tells you all you need to know about Mississippi North once again.
