DICKENSON: “HUCKIN’ AND CHUCKIN’ NOT OUR THING”

First-year Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach Craig Dickenson provided a glimpse into the team’s offensive philosophy this season following Monday’s practice.

Dickenson was asked about the team’s practice-ending touchdown bomb from QB Zach Collaros to sophomore WR K.D. Cannon at Griffiths Stadium.

“That’s nice, but our emphasis down there is we just want first downs,” Dickenson told reporters. “That’s great, but this huckin’ and chuckin’ is not going to be our thing this year. We’re going to move the ball downfield and gain yards in a methodical way. If we have a shot, we’re going to take it. I don’t believe in stepping back and throwing bombs all day. We got one, but we were lucky.”

The comment drew the ire of some members of the Rider Nation whom are already on the back of veteran offensive coordinator Stephen McAdoo before the season even kicks off. The team’s 37-1 preseason loss in Calgary on Friday night only added fuel to that fire. The Riders showed a penchant for a ball control offense with their young QBs that night while Stamps QB Bo Levi Mitchell came out slinging.

We’ll discuss on Tuesday’s The Rod Pedersen Show and on In The Huddle Tuesday evening!

I’m hoping that when something truly is dumb, stupid, ridiculous or even too much to handle. The news will reflect the situation and not be a sugar coated TURD for said employer. This Province needs someone in the know that can tell it how it is. Unlike CJME that… Read more »

You mean like the latest RP Quote… “I don’t live in Fantasy, I live in Reality. Wins are all that matters and Zach wins” All Rod forgot to add to that quote was… “As long as SK has that killer defence that can truly dominate, create turn overs on the competitors 10 yard line so Zach can line it up for 3 points. As long as the defence scores more TDs than Zach throws” then Zach wins” There! Now that would be a TRUE RP no holds barred comment! That did not happen so I’m thinking in order to keep… Read more »
