The NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs released 11 players on Monday morning, including receiver Weston Dressler.  Dressler only got on the field for one play in each of the Chiefs’ past two preseason games.  There is a now a period for Dressler to clear NFL waivers before he’s free to sign with any NFL team.  Otherwise he’s likely headed back to Canada where he’s expected to draw rich offers from Saskatchewan, but also B.C., Ottawa, Winnipeg and perhaps more.

We’ll have more on the topic on today’s SportsCage on 620 CKRM at 4 pm.  We’ll be broadcasting live from The Cooperators Centre in advance of the Regina Pats’ annual Blue & White game.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully he gets a shot with another team down south. But if not, he will be welcomed back to the CFL with open arms (and open wallets of many owners).

Too bad they didn't seem to give him much of a chance judging from the reports.

i heard a serious rumor ottawa made an offer of 250,000 for weston but i hope my ESKS are gonna go hard with a big offer as the riders will be over the cap again trying to buy a winner

if ottawa offers him $300K that will be an example of crappy mgt. they look lousy on the field and Desjardins doesn't have an history of success on his own doubt he will build a winner there.

Why would he sign with a non play-off team?

As you get older, Grey Cups are all that matter.

@Larry,

Actually as you get older feathering the nest for retirement is all that matters. He can go to Ottawa for $250K, and the job in the Regina insurance agency will still be there along with endorsing Humpty's restaurant.

Does anyone really think they are talking $250,000 or $300,000? No receiver in the CFL is worth that!

The Esks would have to cut/trade Fred Stamps first before being able to go after Dressler. That ain't going to happen.

If one receiver means that much then you have other problems. Which Ottawa has I guess. Any other team paying those kind of dollars will be sorry come negs on other contracts.

Dressler made it clear that if he doesn't make it in the NFL, there was only one team he was interested in playing for. He would laugh at Edmonton and I doubt he would go to that train wreck in Ottawa. To hear an Edmonton fan talk about salary cap is laughable. That is how they won their many Grey Cups and one of the main reasons the cap was put in place.. Only losers cry about being over the cap. Lets not forget the neither the Stamps nor Esks have played the Riders this regular season. Neither would have… Read more »

Waiver period is 24 hours, not 10 days.

If Ottawa is offering $300,000 then WD7 shouldn't pass that up. I mean his window is getting smaller by the day. and he can STILL come back and get the job at Sask Power with no questions asked.

If the Riders are offering decent money and close (within $25k) I think WD7 will re-sign and it'll be a much needed boost.

Hey Rod, where can I find this 10 day waiver rule?

Edmonton doesn't need him. Their receiving corps is fine. I just can't see him signing anywhere else in the CFL. The Riders will offer him a big chunk of change, he's close to home and he loves it here. His after football career is set as well. Just doesn't make sense to sign somewhere else.
