DRESSLER SIGNS WITH WINNIPEG

WINNIPEG, MB., January 26, 2016 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the signing of eight-year CFL veteran Weston Dressler to a two-year contract.

Dressler joins the Blue and Gold after eight seasons with Saskatchewan, where he has been one of the league’s most productive receivers since his arrival in 2008. The 5-7, 180 pound Bismarck, ND product is a two-time CFL All-Star, and has been named a Division All-Star on four occasions. He has accumulated 7,797 receiving yards on 539 receptions, with 50 receiving touchdowns.
“Adding a veteran player with his skillset was really a no-brainer for us,” said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. “We were all immediately interested in adding him to our offensive lineup, and we’re very excited to have Weston on our side moving forward.”
“I’m beyond excited to start my career as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber,” said Dressler. “It’s widely known the loyalty their fans have, and the passion the city and province have for the Bombers. The stadium is hands down the loudest in the CFL. And there are great football people in the organization. We have a quarterback who I think is as good as anyone in this league, and some really solid pieces around him. I’m really looking forward to the days ahead.”
Dressler has five 1000 yard seasons and 25 career 100-yard receiving games. Including his work on special teams, he has tallied 55 career touchdowns in the CFL. He’s played in seven career playoff games, and two Grey Cup’s, winning in 2013.

——-

The word is Dressler’s deal is for two years and in the neighbourhood of $175,000 per season.   He and John Chick MIGHT’VE been able to get this out of the Riders however there was no counter-offer made in those discussions.

Good for Dressler. If the Bombers pick up Harris too they will have already made massive improvements over last season.

NFL snobs in this country are probably all pissed off that this big CFL news is dominating discussion instead of the super bowl. Tough luck boys.

Hmm, makes you wonder what the number that the Riders offered him was when they tried to renegotiate? Also, it does go to show that the other teams obviously didn't think that the salary he was supposed to have was his market value.

Regardless, good luck Dressler. It's Winnipeg, you're going to need it!

Dressler was offered half of his $260,000 salary. If it wasn't a big deal then why didn't anyone trade for him when the Riders asked. He didn't want to take a pay cut and the Riders told him up front where he stood.

Everyone is better off here. Weston gets to play in a place where he's wanted (and needed) and the Riders save a tone of cap room that they badly need to help rebuild a defense that was absolutely a joke last season. The only downside is weston has to take a pay cut here… that's an unfortunate reality of pro sports. Congratulations to Weston and to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on signing an excellent player and human being to their team!

For curiosity sake, it would be good to know what he signed for vs what the Riders asked him to renegotiate at. IJ

Thank you #7 for all that you have done for the team, fans and community.

Good Luck. Except when you are playing against the Riders.

Worse move ever by Jones getting rid of Chick and Dressler. Jones unwillingness to negotiate their contracts show how bad of a GM he is and will be. Jones needs to get his head out of his ass as do all of you people who have your man love on for him as you did with CC.

Its time to call it as it is and get rid of this idiot Jones

Ha. It's funny how fans just believe whatever some players put out there. Tha fact is, the Riders asked both Dressler and Chick's agents that they's like to sit down and renegotiate to a more cap-friendly deal. The agents would have none of this. No numbers were discussed. Dressler has also told friends in Regina that he'd only play for what he signed for. He was insulted that the Riders would even ask him to renegotiate. Look people, the answers are out there. You just have to know who to ask. Go back and look, you'll see i know what… Read more »

Your hatred of Jones and Murphy is purely one that validates your personal agenda in some way. It's hate fueled, completely immature and is asinine to say the least! How do you get through life? Where does a loser like you get employed anyway?

It stings to hear you speak so highly of Winnipeg Weston, but that is the burden we will have to live with. You have moved on and so should we. All the best to you in the future but I do believe the gauntlet has been thrown down about whose stadium is the loudest. It will be loud in a good way for your first visit, expect a huge ovation from your old team, after that, well you know how it goes, after all it's Winnipeg!!!

If its any consolation I am aware of the fact that Jones has been put on a very very short leash since the release of Chick and Dressler when it comes to any other so called Rider marque players. Yes the days of Jones having a free reign are over. And no I will not tell all of you haters my sources.

From Dressler – “I had a very good conversation a few days after the release with Craig Reynolds, the president-CEO, and he definitely knows how I felt about the whole situation. For me, as long as he knows it and the people within the organization understand it, I will keep that between us and use that to kind of move on from it and hopefully be able to mend the relationship a little bit in the future.”

Says alot about Jones and not positive at all.

Not likely. The "short leash" was to clean up this terrible 3-15 team and this was the 1st step to an overall well managed plan to become Grey Cup Champs in a new stadium!!
