DURANT SNUBBED AGAIN!!

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are pleased to announce that five players have been selected 2013 CFL All-Stars. Three players from the Green and White were selected to the offence while two were selected to the defence. The All-Stars were selected by Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.

KORY SHEETS (RB): Sheets opened the 2013 season in record fashion rushing for over 100 yards in six straight games and finishing tied for a franchise best nine overall. In 15 games, the second year Rider had 287 carries for 1,598 yards and tied for the league lead with 12 rushing touchdowns. It was his second consecutive 1,000 yard season. He also added 37 receptions for 264 yards. Sheets was a unanimous choice as a West Division All-Star. This is his first CFL All-Star selection.

WESTON DRESSLER (WR): Dressler just completed his sixth season with the Riders and it marked the fifth time he accumulated over 1,000 yards receiving since joining the team. He finished the regular season with 70 catches for 1,011 yards and a team leading nine touchdown receptions. He also added 5 carries for 26 yards, nine punt returns for 100 yards, and three missed field goal returns for 74 yards. Dressler has been named a West Division All-Star in three consecutive seasons and four overall. This is his second CFL All-Star recognition after also being named last season.

BRENDON LABATTE (OL):  LaBatte just completed his sixth CFL season and second with the Riders. The University of Regina product played all 18 regular season games at left guard, paving the way for the team’s ground attack. 2013 marked LaBatte’s fifth consecutive Division All-Star nomination and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. This is his second CFL All-Star recognition after also being named in 2011.

ALEX HALL (DE):  Hall was acquired via trade from Winnipeg on October 6th, after appearing in 13 games with the Blue Bombers. The second year CFL’er joined the Green and White as the league’s leader in quarterback sacks, finishing the season second with 16 after appearing in four games with the Riders. He also added 40 defensive tackles and one fumble recovery on the season. This is Hall’s first selection as a CFL All-Star.

TYRON BRACKENRIDGE (S): Brackenridge just completed his third season with the Riders after joining the team late in the 2011 season. The 29-year-old transitioned to safety after spending his first two seasons at linebacker. Hey, Ray played about half the season and lost his one playoff game. That's a pretty solid season…..

…wow

My biases suggests that DD got snubbed, but really it is hard to suggest that Ricky Ray should not be THE all star for his work over the course of the entire year.

Wow…what the heck??? Yes, Ricky Ray's a great quarterback but Darian has had an amazing year…especially through the playoffs and he won the Grey Cup for crying out loud! What does the guy have to do to get some recognition? Totally disgusted in the QB choice!!!!

Congrats to all the other Riders on the All Star Team…well deserved!

couldn't agree more with the first post.

still, it is obvious that certain stats – in this case percentages, qb rating, etc. – matter more to the decision makers than endurance, playing more games, and the like. how someone can be an allstar and miss that many games is mind-boggling, but hey, you think durant would exchange the cup for a league allstar nod?

next year, he gets both!

chapeau

Not taking DD is a joke given Ricky missed half the season. If there is a plus side it is that Darian will not be happy with his recognition and come back again next year with even more fire to improve his stats and prove he is the best in the league. If he stays healthy watch for Darian getting MOP and CFL Allstar in 2014.

There is room for 1 quarterback. It isn't a personal attack & it isn't saying Durant sucks. All it says is that Ricky Ray was very good. We need to get over ourselves a little & stop pretending Durant head and shoulders better than every quarterback in the league this year. There were games he struggled in and I have no doubt that a game like the Banjo bowl affects the overall perception around the league. He was good, great and pretty mediocre this year. So was every other quarterback. He also probably had better receivers than Ricky Ray and… Read more »

Something for Durant to aspire to in 2014!

What do football reporters really know besides beer bellies and free greasy food? They can't see past their waistlines to know anything of substance.

I can't remember the last time someone drank champagne out of an All Star Cup.

Durant = Grey Cup
All the rest doesn't matter.

Not a big deal. RR had a great nine game season … his stats were over the top! DD looked very mediocre from the Banjo Bowl onward. Double D got the championship and that's all that matters.

Andy you're about as bright as those reporters. Durant looked mediocre the rest of the season? Did you happen to watch him in the playoffs? He was excellent.

Who cares. Durant won the only trophy that really matters. The man is a champion!

Crosby was the best player in the NHL in the season he had his major concussion. He missed half a season…did they still hand him the awards? no, they look at the performers for the entire year. CFL all stars are effectively meaningless from now on. I'm not saying durant should have won for sure, just saying someone who played only 1/2 a season shouldn't have.

I am not saying Durant should have got it. I am outraged by the fact a player who played half the season won an all star for the 2013 season award. I honestly don't think a hockey player who scores 40 goals before Xmas and then drops goose eggs till April, but is a positive presents on the bench wins the Heart Trophy or first team all star at the end of the season.

When is the final stadium design goin to be revealed? Is Regina stuck with that old overused crinkled hospital bed pan/Calgary saddle dome space ship design? Hope that yellow page guy who works for the city and the selected contractor get it right and come up with something better looking.

By the way Darian Durant totally got shafted yet again, but he's still a Grey Cup Champion.

The fact remains that these are determined prior to the Play – off's, or at least that is what I a have been told. Not saying DD doesn't deserve the recognition, just saying the outstanding three weeks he played in Novemeber were a non – factor at the end of the day.
And you know what, don't you think Ricky Ray would hand over those accolades for a drink from the Cup that DD can enjoy at nauseum for the next twelve months?

Only argument against RR would be his shortened season. His numbers when he played were ridiculously good. Even the playoff game he lost he had a QB rating of 123.1. He only had a couple sub 100 rated games. Compare to DD who had quite a few sub 100 games and actually averaged less than 100 for the year. The huge plus on DD was how he elevated in the playoffs, 140+ all 3 games. Those numbers are awesome! But I'm not sure they are even supposed to factor in to the all star stuff (although I think they should)… Read more »

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!

Think about it Rider Nation… Every single time that Darian is ignited with something that enrages him – he wins!

1) Obsessed with the disheartening losses of Grey Cup 09 and 10 he was determined to win a Cup and become a champion;

2) When a non-fan enraged him by a social media comment, he then went on to have one of the best games of the season.

The man thrives on unfair recognition. Whatever works!

Go Darian!

Go Riders!
