ESKS EXTEND BURNETT AND CHARLES
The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announces contract extensions for import corner back Joe Burnett and import running back Hugh Charles, keeping them in Green and Gold through 2015.
Burnett originally signed as a free agent on Oct. 7, 2011. Since joining the Green and Gold, he recorded 104 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, seven interceptions for two touchdowns and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He also returned 39 kickoffs for 789 yards and 85 punts for 731 yards. During his rookie season in 2012, Burnett recorded a team-leading seven knockdowns and a league-leading six interceptions. He is a two-time Gibson’s Finest Player of the Week Award winner and was a named a 2012 Western Division and CFL All Star.
Charles was traded to Edmonton from Saskatchewan on Oct. 12, 2011 in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2014 CFL Canadian Draft. Since joining the Green and Gold, he had 290 carries for 1,527 yards and nine touchdowns; 59 receptions for 775 yards and three touchdowns; and 25 kickoff returns for 559 yards. In 2012, Charles was the team’s leading rusher with 170 carries for 887 yards and six touchdowns. He is a two-time Gibson’s Finest Player of the Week Award winner.
