FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN
We welcomed some big names on The RP Show for Football Friday and Episode #685 live from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino, Calgary’s Entertainment Destination! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Canada beats Honduras 2-0 in World Cup Qualifying and remains undefeated! 2) NHL Thursday – Good news for the Oilers, bad news for the Jets & Flames, 3 – The Roughriders named their 2022 football operations staff (How do we grade offensive coordinator Jason Maas’s Year 1?), 4) The Pats take on the Wheat Kings Friday in the Brandt Centre on TSN, 5) The Vikings name an analytics guy as General Manager. Thumbs up or down? and 6) Brandon Banks is leaving the Ticats. RP wonders if it’s like Omarr Morgan leaving the Riders after 2006; does he think he’ll never win in Hamilton?
- Saskatchewan Rush play-by-play man Cody Janzen joined the show to preview Saturday’s Rush home game against Panther City (Fort Worth). Both teams are 1-4 and Cody figures this is the chance for the Rush to turn around their season. He feels the club is better than their record, and there’s plenty of time for them to get back to peak form. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.ca
- In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer we were joined by 3-time Grey Cup champion Ryan Thelwell. The former NFL’er and longtime CFL’er told countless stories of his time with the BC Lions (2001-2006) and Calgary Stampeders (2007-10) and epic tales of Grey Cups 2006, 2008 and 2011. The London, ON product told several behind-the-scenes stories including that he didn’t want to sign with Calgary because he didn’t like Nik Lewis and Jermain Copeland! (Nik ended up being in Thelwell’s wedding party). And after his retirement, Ryan said his father admitted that he was always a Rider fan due to Roy Shivers and Danny Barrett! Thelwell’s taking the 49ers and Chiefs to win on Sunday.
- Sportsnet CFL analyst and former Roughrider Eddie Steele joined the show from Edmonton for a wide-ranging CFL chat. He graded Jason Maas with a B for the 2021 season and maintained that he’s still not a Cody Fajardo supporter. (He referenced Chris Jones’ recent comments to backup his claim). Eddie’s a big believer in what Jones is doing with the Elks and feels they could be a Grey Cup contender in 2022.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Kyle Crnkovic of the Saskatoon Blades. Friday’s winner was Ryan Thelwell.
- See you at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
Hockey Canada made a huge mistake not including Regina Pats hockey phenom Connor Bedard on the 2022 Olympic Hockey Team. Imagine how many goals alone young Connor would have scored on the National Chinese Olympic Hockey Team. Connor Bedard deserved a historic roster spot, no ands if’s or buts about it.
