IMG_3498

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and the boys discussed it all on Episode #690 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – to close the week! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Olympics are underway! Canada’s off to a good start in Mixed Doubles Curling, 2) The Stampeders re-sign DB Branden Dozier, 3) The Jaguars hire Doug Pederson has head coach, 4) The NHL All Star Skills Competition goes Friday night in Las Vegas!, 5) Did anyone watch the NFL Skills Competition Thursday night from Vegas?, and 6) It’s Day 65 of the MLB lockout and spring training is in jeopardy. Has anyone noticed?
  • Dallas Cowboys defenders Trevon Diggs (best catch) and Micah Parsons (fastest runner) were winners in the NFL Skills Competition. Rod wonders why the Cowboys aren’t in the Super Bowl? The panel then debated if the CFL could hold a similar event.
  • A very interesting chat was had with former CFL’er Matt Dubuc (Toronto, Winnipeg 1997-99), who’s currently the head coach at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The reigning 4A State champs coach told stories of winning the Grey Cup with the Argos in 1997, being roommates with Jeremy O’Day, and said Toronto QB Doug Flutie was the “Kramer” of their condo complex! Dubuc also discussed the importance of Signing Day for his program, and agreed with Rod that the CFL gets more respect in American than it does in Canada.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win Super Bowl LVI – the Rams or Bengals? At press time, the results were around 50/50.
  • In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer, we were joined by pending CFL free agent receiver Greg Ellingson from Tampa. The former Jaguar, Buccaneer, Tiger-Cat, RedBlack and Elk was a very engaging guest, and said Ticats, Bombers and Rider fans are putting on the pressure to sign with their teams. The 33-year old 4-time CFL All Star said the opening of free agency on February 8 will be very interesting. Greg also reflected on his rookie season with Hamilton in 2013 and how the Tiger-Cats “were never really in” the 2013 Grey Cup against Saskatchewan. He also talked about practicing in -50 degree temperatures that week. Greg introduced viewers to his dog Odin, who was sprawled out on the couch behind him.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Edmonton Elks President Victor Cui. Friday’s winner was Greg Ellingson.
  • Friday’s show is available for viewing now on our YouTube channel or you can download the podcast from your favourite podcast platform.
  • Be sure to tune into Access TV’s RP Show Best of the Week at noon Saturday & Sunday!
  • We’ll see you Monday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive as we broadcast from Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles and the Westin-LAX Hotel!

Not surprised Riders are interested in Ellingson. Maas was hot to get him last time until he signed with Edm late. I would not be too surprised to see him in Regina or Hamilton who looks to be losing Acklin. If he signs with Riders it will signal that Williams isn’t coming back. Riders will look quite different this year. Nothing to say that in the 48 hour window starting tomorrow the current teams can’t convince players on their way out to stay. But right now. besides Gainey, it looks like Purifoy is off to BC so 2 down in… Read more »
