FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: NASTY NAPASTUK, TANYA WALTER & MORE!

Fridays are always reserved for the gridiron but this one was extra special as we celebrated our 700th episode of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – with some special friends! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL Thursday games, 2) The USFL Draft goes Tuesday. Do you care? 3) Elks fans better get used to how Chris Jones does business, 4) Canada’s Brad Gushue wins bronze in mens curling at the Olympics, 5) It’s NBA All Star Weekend! Do you care? 6) It’s a big weekend in the NLL including the Rush at Colorado, and our crew will be taking in the Roughnecks/Warriors game in the Saddledome!
  • BC Lions defensive assistant coach Tanya Walter – the CFL’s first full-time female assistant coach – joined the show to discuss this week’s hiring. She admitted the response this week has been quite overwhelming but she somewhat expected it, and certainly appreciates it! She discussed her lengthy career in football and basketball as a player, coach and administrator and why she feels she’s ready for this role. She said she’s “defense first” as a former linebacker. Walter joined us from her Edmonton home, but said she’ll be moving to Vancouver shortly. Tons of viewers chimed in with positive messages, congrats and welcomes to the CFL.
  • In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer we were joined by 8-year CFL veteran Sheldon “Nasty” Napastuk. The North Battleford product and Iowa State grad told the hilarious story of how he was a hotdog street vendor in Saskatoon in 1999 and became tired of serving the Roughrider players outside nightclubs, so he decided to tryout for the team at the urging of his mother! It spawned an 8-year career (four in Saskatchewan and four in Calgary) and Sheldon’s gone on to a successful real estate career in Calgary. Napastuk said that he and Rod always shared a special friendship, and they revisited the heated Riders/Stamps rivalry of the 2000s. Sheldon also talked of the “Feterik Era” with the Stampeders but said his mind has mostly blocked it out!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: To Rider fans – who would be the WORST West Division representative in the 2022 Grey Cup at Mosaic Stadium? At press time, Winnipeg was leading by a large margin.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Kelly Hrudey. Friday’s was Sheldon Napastuk.
  • Friday’s show is available for viewing now on our YouTube channel or you can listen to the podcast wherever you find your favourite podcasts.
  • After the long weekend, we’ll see you Tuesday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

I dunno. Winnipeg is way ahead as worst team but what could be worse than spiriting away Jones to Regina in order to win 1 or 2 Cups, getting dumped by Jones & he comes back with a new team, nicely stocked with ex-Riders, & wins the Cup right in Regina? That would have to be the ultimate embarrassment, no?

Ottawa. As a crossover.
