FLAMES FARM TEAM MOVES
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Flames have announced that the American Hockey League’s Board of Governors has approved the relocation of the franchise owned by the Flames from Abbotsford, B.C., to Glens Falls, N.Y., beginning with the 2014-15 season.
“Glens Falls has had a terrific history with the American Hockey League and will be an ideal location and environment for the development of our prospects,” said Flames General Manager Brad Treliving. “When we announced on April 15th our discontinuation of operations in the City of Abbotsford, we had a few options available to us and there was much speculation about Glens Falls.
“There has been a high level of interest demonstrated to ensure the AHL remains in that market. We look forward to finalizing details and beginning this new partnership.”
Glens Falls, N.Y., has been home to American Hockey League action for 25 seasons. The Detroit Red Wings AHL development program captured four Calder Cup titles between 1979 and 1999 under the banner of the Adirondack Red Wings. The Philadelphia Flyers (Adirondack Phantoms) called Glens Falls home since 2009 and left at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.
The Mayor and Council of this town has been pouring millions of taxpayers dollars to build the stadium and run this team….they forgot to take into consideration half the residents are probably gang bangers and have no need for hockey…bad bad move.
