FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: CFL & NFL TALK, BLUE JAYS AND MORE!

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron on The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – and we were joined by some of our best pals on Episode #714 at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino! Here’s the rundown:

  • With Moose doing business in Arizona, RP was joined by Calgary Stampeders voice Mark Stephen for The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The two Sask teams face-off in a tiebreaker Friday morning at the Brier, 2) The MLB lockout is over. Play ball! 3) Thursday NHL leftovers including the Flames’ big 4-1 win over Tampa Bay, 4) CFL Regional Combine results and will the USFL survive? 5) Previewing the NLL weekend, and 6) A recap of a wild week in the NFL.
  • Mark Stephen brought several spicy thoughts including the prediction that the Blue Jays will go nowhere under manager Charlie Montoyo, and he’s exasperated that the CFL and CFLPA haven’t opened CBA talks! Regarding the Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz and Khalil Mack trades this week, Mark reflected that the biggest CFL off-season trade in recent memory was Ricky Ray going from Edmonton to Toronto in 2012.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show from North Carolina and said the winner of the Seahawks/Broncos trade was Russell Wilson, because he got out of Seattle! Tori was a teammate of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay and while he’s pleased for Rodgers that he’s now the NFL’s highest-paid player, he’s concerned that it’s sucked up too much salary cap room. Regarding the NFL-to-Toronto, Tori said he’s all for it!
  • Toronto Star Blue Jays reporter and DeepLeftField.com Podcast host Mike Willner joined the show to discuss the end of the lockout and preview the MLB season. He was surprised at the abrupt end of the lockout, and said owners never cared about the damage being done to the game. Regarding a prediction for the season, Willner said it’s too soon to say but said Toronto is positioned well in the AL East with a very exciting young lineup. Regarding the move to a universal DH across both the AL and NL, Mike said it’s long overdue.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Where will the Blue Jays finish in the AL East this season – 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th or lower? At press time, the majority of respondents said 2nd-place.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Connor Bedard. Friday’s was Mark Stephen.
  • Be sure to tune into the RP Show Best of the Week on Access Now TV Saturday and Sunday at 12 pm Sask Time. Our guests include Bedard, Lanny McDonald, Theoren Fleury and Calgary Sun writer Danny Austin
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Monday on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino.
