FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: DUNK, ALFIERI, NFL PICKS & MORE!

Year-round, Fridays are reserved for football on the RP Show and we tackled all the latest gridiron buzz on Episode #900 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talkshow – on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

• RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with the Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Baker Mayfield rallies the L.A. Rams to a 17-16 win over Las Vegas on Thursday Night Football, just two days after signing with the team!, 2) Thursday NHL leftovers including the Panthers routing the Red Wings and the Maple Leafs blanking the Kings, 3) CFL Notes – the Ottawa RedBlacks have locked up specialists K Lewis Ward and P Richie Leone, 4) Examining further Rod’s take on CFL expansion and why a team in Saskatoon is worth a discussion, 5) Weekend College Football features the much-hyped Navy/Army game, and 6) It’s Week 2 in the NLL and there’s a Friday doubleheader with Las Vegas at Panther City followed by the Saskatchewan Rush at San Diego.
• A running theme was: When and where did you attend your first NFL game? Rod’s was in Seattle in 1995, witnessing a game at the Kingdom between the Seahawks and NY Jets. Moose’s was in 2018 in Nashville between the Tennessee Titans and NY Jets. The audience chimed in with their memories throughout the show.
• Alouettes digital reporter Joey Alfieri joined the show from Montreal. The popular former TSN 690 host reflected on his first season with the Als, and what he learned. He didn’t expect how tight-knit all members of the franchise are, and said they all come together to help a team’s success. Joey also said the coaching change mid-season was difficult to experience due to his friendship with former head coach Khari Jones. Joey’s first NFL game was in Cleveland in 2017 but said it paled in comparison to an NCAA game at Ohio State University the night before.
• In Hour 2 were were joined by 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk to cover the week that was in the CFL. He’s impressed by all the moves made by the RedBlacks and discussed former Rider assistant coach Stephen Sorrells taking over the offensive line of the Edmonton Elks. Regarding where Cody Fajardo will play in 2023, Justin mentioned the options appear to be Saskatchewan, BC, Toronto or Ottawa. However he feels a determining factor will be where Bo Levi Mitchell signs. Justin’s first NFL game was as a child, taking in a Bills game in Buffalo.
• It was Day 9 of our NHL Reverse Retro Jersey Bracket. So far the Golden Knights, Sharks, Bruins, Rangers, Panthers, Canucks, Kings, Red Wings and Wild have moved on. Friday’s Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Whose Reverse Retro jersey is the best – Carolina or Buffalo? At press time, the Sabres were leading with over 90% of the vote.
• Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day was John Lu. Friday’s was Justin Dunk!
• In the Overtime segment, Rod and Darren played NFL Deal Or No Deal for our exclusive betting partner Bet Regal, where Rod offered up Bet Regal’s Week 14 betting lines and Moose made his picks.
