FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: MONSON, BAKARI & MORE
Fridays remain reserved for football on The RP Show and we tackled the latest gridiron news on Episode #961 live from the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday NHL leftovers and Jordan Binnington’s 2-game suspension, 2) NFL free agency notes and Week 5 in the XFL, 3) March Madness, 4) A Blue Jays spring training update, 5) It’s Week 16 in the NLL and Saskatchewan visits Calgary Friday night!, and 6) Randoms including Dub Hub, Junior A playoffs and more.
- Calgary Stampeders defensive coordinator Brent Monson joined the show for a chat which spanned Hours 1 & 2. The Hamilton, ON product discussed his road from beginning as a video assistant with the Stamps in 2009 to the top defensive job. Monson reflected on coaching Denver Broncos star linebacker Alex Singleton (“I didn’t screw him up,” Brent joked), recapped the 2022 CFL season and looked ahead to 2023 and answered questions from viewers such as who’s the toughest CFL QB to defend? “Zach Collaros always saves his best games for us,” Monson quipped.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are you into March Madness? At press time close to 70% of respondents said no.
- Former 49ers, Ticats, Stampeders and Roughriders wide receiver Bakari Grant joined the show from San Francisco for a life update. “BG” said he recently went through an NFL Alumni Mental Health course and discussed the importance of current and former players reaching out for help if they’re struggling. Bakari reflected on his CFL career which capped off with a Grey Cup championship in 2018 with the Stamps and promised to come back again to tell more stories.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day was Peter Maher. Friday’s was Brent Monson!
