FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: STAMPEDERS COACHES & SURPRISE GUESTS!
Fridays are reserved for the gridiron on the RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – and we kept the train of great guests going on Episode #709 from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary! Read on for the rundown:
- RP was joined by broadcaster Daniella Ponticelli for The Warmup. The CBC news reporter is in Calgary to call the Canada West womens hockey series between Saskatchewan and Mount Royal, and has also appeared as a sideline reporter on Saskatchewan Rush and Canada West Football broadcasts. They covered these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday NHL one-timers plus thoughts on the Oilers and Jets, 2) The Raptors fall 108-106 to the Pistons, 3) Kenny Pickett’s hand size is the talk of the NFL Combine in Indianapolis (it’s the smallest of all quarterbacks at 8.5-inches), 4) The CFLPA re-elects Solomon Elimimian as President, 5) The USFL is caught up in legal drama over the use of its name by the original USFL owners, and 6) The Brier opens Friday night in Lethbridge.
- Calgary Stampeders QBs Coach Marc Mueller joined the show live at Grey Eagle and discussed his road from being a U of R Rams assistant coach and Molson rep to rising up the ranks with the Stampeders. The grandson of Ron Lancaster said the “Pickett hand” talk is overrated and all that matters is if he can produce on the field. Mueller previewed the 2022 CFL season and also discussed the Stamps adding former NFL QB Tommy Stevens.
- In Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer we were joined by Stampeders Special Teams Coordinator Mark Kilam who discussed his rise from coaching high school football in Cochrane, AB to joining the Stampeders in 2005 as Strength Coach and working his way up through the organization. Regarding the Stampeders coaching tree, Kilam credits John Hufnagel and Dave Dickenson for the way they treat their staff. Mark then got into an impassioned discussion on preserving the 3-down Canadian game and the future of the CFL. He feels it’s incredibly bright. The Stamps’ top rival in 2022 appears to be the Edmonton Elks, whom Calgary will face five times this year including preseason. Kilam also laughed that the only thing better than beating the Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium is beating them at McMahon Stadium! He also went into detail about the Stampeders’ six Grey Cup appearances in his time.
- NLL Insider Stephen Stamp joined the show from Ontario to preview this weekend’s schedule and said his marquee game is the New York Riptide at the Toronto Rock. Also this weekend the Calgary Roughnecks visit San Diego and Saskatchewan is at Panther City.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Kaillie Humphries. Friday’s was Marc Mueller.
- Enjoy the weekend and we’ll see you Monday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
I agree whole heartedly with Mark Kilam in regards to the CFL rules verses NFL rules.
