Wednesday was an historic night as the Regina Red Sox and the Fort McMurray Giants played the first WMBL game at Shell Place in Fort McMurray.
The Giants overcame a late inning deficit to beat the Red Sox 6-5, much to the delight of the Fort McMurray fans.
Red Sox pitcher Allan Sanchez, making his fifth WMBL appearance of the season, threw two innings and gave up four runs in the loss. Ryan Dunn picked up the Giants win.
Designated Hitter Jake Howard had a hit, a run and two RBI for the visiting Red Sox, while Korbin Polston and Ryan Howard each added a pair of hits.
The speedy Justin Erlandson also stole his team high ninth base.
The loss drops Regina’s overall record to 12-9 and 1-1 on the six game Alberta road trip. Regina and Fort McMurray will hit the field again Thursday night for a rematch at Shell Field.
Regina will play Edmonton on Friday, July 1 before rounding out their tour of Alberta with a couple of games in Okotoks.
