Friday Commentary: 3 or More Thoughts

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – Not sure about your circles but the buzz in mine is all about the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Florida Panthers’ dominance; particularly this week. After toppling Toronto 6-1 in Game 7 on Sunday, the Cats have opened Round 3 with pulverizing 5-2 and 5-0 wins over the Carolina Hurricanes. Both in Raleigh.

I can’t remember a team quite this dominant for some time.

It’s going to be a blast being in Amerant Bank Arena for Games 3 & 4 in Sunrise.

#2 – Then it’ll be on a plane home for the summer and the Western Canadian Baseball League season. And some CFL and CEBL coverage too. Canadian sports fans don’t know how good they have it!

I didn’t either till I went away for awhile. It’s going to be a blast and above all, a treat to get out of this sweltering heat. I just don’t like it.

#3 – Speaking of the CFL, there are four games on Saturday including the Roughriders at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. I’m enjoying the coverage and see Saskatchewan coach Corey Mace had to halt another practice due to fights on field, and ended up scrapping Thursday’s workout altogether.

Nothing more than boys being boys, and a sure sign that it’s time to play another team.

#4 – It’s not the start the CEBL’s Saskatchewan Rattlers were looking for. Sask’s pro basketball team fell to 0-2 thanks to a 92-89 home loss to the Edmonton Stingers on Thursday. Meanwhile the Saskatchewan Rush visit Buffalo in the third and deciding game of the NLL final on Saturday on TSN. It feels like this run hasn’t gripped the province like the last one’s did. What gives?

And #5 – Don’t look now, but the Blue Jays are in second place in the AL East, five games off the lead, as we plow into June. They won the San Diego series this week and tonight open up a weekend set at Tampa Bay.

Ahhhh sports. What would we do without them?
