FRIDAY COMMENTARY – AGAIN, TIME MARCHES ON
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
We end the week with some random thoughts from the world of sports, and look ahead to the kind of weekend that makes you glad to be alive!
Where to begin?
- Well it was a tremendous week of hockey and the Game of the Week had to be the Oilers’ 6-5 win at Chicago Thursday night. Connor McDavid had a hattrick and it was 80’s hockey all over again. Trouble is, I don’t think Jack Campbell is the next Grant Fuhr in the Oilers crease.
- The highlight of my weekend will be watching the Oilers & Flames in the Saddledome Saturday night on Hockey Night In Canada. I smell a big Flames victory in Round 2 of the Battle of Alberta.
- The Game of the Week in the CFL is Friday night with the BC Lions at Winnipeg and quarterback Nathan Rourke returning to the starting role for BC. The kid I’ve nicknamed “WestJet” remains exactly what the CFL – and the Lions – need right now.
- Had Saturday’s Roughriders-Stampeders game at McMahon Stadium meant anything, I’d have gone there but as far as the standings go, it’s meaningless. For those coming to the game, God bless you. It’s going to be clear and plus-9.
- The Stamps are using it for a tune-up for next weekend’s semifinal and those in-the-know will be closely watching their quarterback rotation. I’m told we may see Bo again, in the playoffs.
- As far as the Rider roster goes, this will be the final game for plenty in green. Then The Insiders tell me to be ready for Black Tuesday.
- The biggest story of the week is the 109th Grey Cup Committee failing to announce the halftime act yet, despite the fact the game is less than a month away. No comment. Just … no comment.
- The World Series begins tonight between Philadelphia and Houston! I’ll be cheering for the Astros. Someone has to. The 2017 Astros, Barry Bonds and even Andrew Harris prove that if you aren’t cheating, you aren’t trying and their names remain in the record books. It goes on all the time, but they got caught.
- And Week 8 in the NFL opened Thursday with Baltimore winning 27-22 at Tampa Bay. Bucs quarterback Tom Brady never smiled once and has now lost three in a row for the first time in 20 years. Enjoy watching TB12 now, because this is the end.
Time marches on.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Roddy as Gormley would say “you said it well”.
I couldn’t be more happy to see the old goat struggling. He shouldn’t have beat my Cowboys wk one. Oh well let’s now compare records.
Only hope Rodgers will now be joining him as the two ol dogs with loosing records.
GO COWBOYS!
Have a good wk end Roddy.
