Friday Commentary: Catch Em If You Can
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend ..
#1 – It seems like nobody can get enough of this Bill Belichick-to-North Carolina story. The 72-year old was introduced Thursday as head coach of the Tar Heels; his first ever foray into college football.
The terms used to describe this move include “Shocking”, “Fascinating”, “Intriguing” and many more.
Now we wait.
#2 – I think Belichick took the job because he likes a challenge. Similar to me joining the Western Canadian Baseball League last season in my 36th year in the broadcasting business.
At last weekend’s WCBL league meetings, our Moose Jaw Miller Express were named “Top Play-by-Play” in the league.
It felt good. It’s been a long road back.
And it was nice to win on behalf of the City of Moose Jaw, and a great franchise with a tremendous culture.
It starts at the top (Millers President Darryl Pisio) and runs all the way to the bottom.
Always does.
#3 – I see in the Leader Post where the Roughriders say their biggest challenge this winter is rebuilding their season ticket base which has eroded in each of the past three seasons. All of this in the greatest stadium in the land.
Folks, it really isn’t that hard. They’re acting like it’s some great mystery.
Why does no one seem to see this? Meh … it’s not my concern anymore.
I’ll have more thoughts in my weekend 10 Things column in the RP Show newsletter. Sign up for free today at RodPedersen.com.
#4 – It’s been a treat to welcome new CFL coaches and league stars Vernon Adams Jr. Tre Ford, Mark Killam, Buck Pierce and the like to the RP Show over the past two weeks.
Hey – I’ll talk CFL all winter on the show if the league wants to keep putting its players on.
And #5 – Our Florida NHL teams are making a trip through Western Canada this week. Catch ‘em if you can, and tell me what you think!
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Great Stuff; #3 – It was a great day for Texas when I cancelled/didn’t renew my season ticket. $343.00 to fork over was not the issue. Nor was the $X amount spent on merchandise and a yearly lotto ticket. I simply quit the Saskatchewan Roughriders. When the 2020 season was cancelled it felt like an amputation. As they and the CFL went along – the “woke” era and “diversity is our strength”, “land acknowledgments” – virtue signal night for this or that. With the exception of the 1990s & Country Themed games it became nothing but a virtue signal. I’m… Read more »
Agreed on 3 and 3.1. Rod said it in this column, it starts at the top of the organization. Accountants are not trained to run organizations. I’ll always be a fan, but my money stays put until the accountant is gone…..
Pt. 2 – Bill Belichick & Rod Pedersen are the same. Love it Roddy! Keep killing it!
