A coupla three or more thoughts heading into the weekend …

#1 – As the year draws to a close, naturally we’re going to get reflective. 2025 was known as the Year of the Snake (look it up) and that brought all sorts of meanings to all sorts of people. From a sports perspective, it’s been quiet a year.

Let me continue …

#2 – The NFL has a few weeks to go but it’s already set a record for last-minute wins and the Week 16 opener on Thursday Night Football was just the latest. Seahawks coach Mike McDonald went for a two point conversion on an overtime touchdown – and was successful – and Seattle stunned the L.A. Rams 38-37 to clinch a playoff spot.

It was billed as the Game of the Year, and it lived up to the hype. Imagine being the Rams! Receiver Puka Nacua had 225 yards receiving and quarterback Matt Stafford threw for three touchdowns, 450 yards, no turnovers, and they still lost!

Can the rest of Week 16 match the hype? Can the rest of the calendar year? I don’t see why not.

#3 – It’s been less spectacular on the ice, for a lot of teams. Lately anyway. In the spring we had five Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs – the most since 1993 – but as of today, there are only two in playoff spots. Also last spring, there were no U.S. Original Six teams in the playoffs and that was a cause of concern for Commissioner Gary Bettman. However if you look at the standings today, the top three spots in the Atlantic Division are all held by Original Six teams. You can’t have it all.

We only got a couple weeks left to close this thing out.

Let’s finish strong.
