FRIDAY COMMENTARY: HERE YOU COME AGAIN

A coupla three or more thoughts heading into U.S. Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend:

#1 – It doesn’t matter what the play on the field is. Dolly Parton stole the show and will be the water cooler talk for Week 12 of the NFL season after she came out dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader for her halftime concert at the Washington/Dallas game.

At age 77, at first, I thought it was a little cringy and then I thought, ‘Who cares?’ Dolly certainly has been edgy her whole career and never gave two squirts about what anybody thought of her since she first took the stage in 1956.

I found her performance Thursday to be an inspiration.

#2 – In that game the Cowboys routed the Commanders 45-10 and at the end of the game broadcaster Tony Romo said, “Another lopsided home win for the Cowboys.”

They say the same thing about the Dolphins, who visit the Jets today; they beat up on the weaklings but lose to the tough clubs.

Watch Miami and Dallas meet in the Super Bowl.

#3 – The numbers are in and close to 9-million Canadians watched the Grey Cup. I’d love to know the worldwide figure.

Many are celebrating the ratings – for good reason – but it angers me a tad. Why do Canadians and big city media only pay attention to the CFL once per year? Is there a magic secret to turning them on en masse for 12 months, or even six?

However I sleep so much better with the realization that it’s not my job to figure that out, and the task is now how to grow the RP Show. It’s tough in this crowded space, but it’s happening.

And #4 – There are 15 games in the NHL today. All but two teams are playing (Golden Knights & Coyotes.)

I think the marquee game of them all might be here in Sunrise where the Florida Panthers welcome the Winnipeg Jets! There would be a ton of hype in a lot of markets that the #1 team in Canada is coming to town (according to TSN’s Power Rankings), however I generally get the feeling no one around here knows or cares.

But I do.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Thank you for the first Tanya Tucker reference and now Dolly Parton. “Here you come again” is a song title I bet the rubes don’t even know that. That is the benefit of never having anything but ckrm on in the kitchen. There are many ways to get wisdom and never mistake education for wisdom. It was interesting to see after 30 years (doesn’t seem that long ago) that Jerry and Jimmy would reconcile. Proof positive that the word never is a long time. For those that enjoy all football. Michigan vs Ohio St. – thee game is on Saturday.… Read more »

Who are you saying is the number 1 team in Canada? Check the standings please. It’s crazy the blinders some media have and the early bed time.

OMG, you are calling the Jets the number 1 team in Canada because of TSN’s power rankings. WOW.

Another beat down for the Boys. Everyone is saying they are only beating teams with under 500 records, yes they are and they are also running up the score and doing a fantastic job. Their own division is a disgrace. There is an automatic 4 wins. Yes the Eagles beat them, but that was anyone’s game. The big one is left in Big D. They don’t make the schedule, and it’s not their fault these other teams aren’t competitive. They will be tested in the weeks to come, hopefully they can make the nay sayers open their eyes and take… Read more »
