FRIDAY COMMENTARY – JUST DO IT
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
TODAY, TO CLOSE THE WEEK, WE’VE GOT SOME GOOD NEWS AND SOME BAD NEWS.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT A SURE SIGN OF FOOTBALL SEASON TOOK PLACE ON THURSDAY. A REPORTED 15-HUNDRED PATRONS TOOK IN THE ANNUAL DOG’S BREAKFAST HUSKIES FUNDRAISER IN SASKATOON.
THE 2007 GREY CUP CHAMPION ROUGHRIDERS – A VERY SPECIAL TEAM – WERE HONOURED AT THE EVENT WITH A HANDFUL OF PLAYERS FROM THAT SQUAD ON HAND.
I WAS MOST INTERESTED TO HEAR THE COMMENTS THOUGH, OF CURRENT RIDER QUARTERBACK CODY FAJARDO, WHOM WAS ALSO AT THE EVENT.
HE COMPARED THE ’07 RIDERS TO THIS YEAR’S TEAM, BOTH OF WHOM CAME OFF PAINFUL LOSSES IN THE WEST FINAL THE YEAR BEFORE.
CODY ALWAYS INSPIRES CONFIDENCE AND THE RIDER NATION IS BURSTING JUST GETTING READY TO CHEER FOR HIM.
ALL HE HAS TO DO IS WIN.
THE BAD NEWS IS A REPORT FROM 3DOWNNATION WHICH SAYS CBA TALKS HAVE HIT A WALL BETWEEN THE CFL AND THE PLAYERS ASSOCIATION.
THANK GOODNESS FOR 3DOWN, WHO SEEMS TO BE PROVIDING THE BEST COVERAGE OF THE SITUATION.
HOWEVER AS THE DAYS GO ON, I’M BECOMING MORE LIKE YOU; LESS OF A REPORTER AND MUCH MORE OF A FAN.
FOR YEARS WHEN THE CLOCK GETS CLOSE TO MIDNIGHT ON EXPIRING CFL CBA DEALS, THE THREAT OF A STRIKE OR LOCKOUT SEEMS TO ALWAYS COME UP.
BUT THEN, A DEAL ALWAYS SEEMS TO GET DONE AND WE HAVE FOOTBALL, ON TIME.
THE FANS JUST WANT TO SEE THEIR TEAM ON THE FIELD AND REALLY DON’T SEEM TO CARE ALL THAT MUCH ABOUT THE MINUTIA OF TALKS LIKE THIS. I’M THE SAME.
JUST GET IT DONE BOYS.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Looking forward to CFL season getting underway and yes, I’m an optimist. The CBA will get done. As an aside, if anyone’s interested in joining a CFL Rotisserie League then send me a note at melonvillesports90@gmail.com 8 team league with a good group of owners. We have 2 spots to fill.
I find it totally confusing.
First off you read an article claiming it’s harder to recruit Americans due to the new leagues down there.
Then Ambrosie and company propose a 10 year contract with no Canadian ratio.
I feel sorry for the good folks that recently purchased the Lions and Allouettes. They got suckered.
I’ve been a CFL fan for over half a century but without the ratio my TSN feed is g-o-n-e.
Tom, They negotiate. Basically what the management does is send an offer which on the surface seems ridiculous. Then again is it? Football is not a “career”, it’s an experience and the average length of a career is maybe 3 years. We get the stars, but for the most part it’s a here today, gone tomorrow. Then what an offer like that does is canibalize the membership. If I’m an import who has been here a few years. Maybe I apply for Permanent Resident and in a short while I’m a bonafide Canadian citizen. – now why would I be… Read more »
