What a night in sports that was!

In fact it’s taking awhile to get my mind around all of it, and what it means heading into the weekend.

Through it all – a huge CFL upset by Ottawa over Winnipeg and the Florida Panthers going up 3-0 over Edmonton in the Stanley Cup Final – I was calling a rivalry baseball game between the Millers and Red Sox at Ross Wells Parks so I didn’t see any of the action from the gridiron or on the ice.

And let me first say it was realllllly weird to call a game where Regina was the opponent. Jolting in fact, and it actually took some time to get my mind around that!

The Red Sox won 4-3 by the way.

As far as the Stanley Cup Final goes, just trying to listen on the radio and then watching the Score app, it seems like the Oilers folded like a cheap suit.

Did they?

And now the Panthers are one win away from their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history. Those of us who count ourselves as “Panther followers” can daydream about the route of the Stanley Cup parade and what a title will mean for Florida hockey but the team cannot.

At least I don’t think they can, or should. Florida coach Paul Maurice said after the game that all he was looking forward to was going to bed!

*Focus on what’s right in front of you.*

And Edmonton, keep your shirt on! Somebody crunched the numbers and said the Oilers have a 3% chance of coming back and winning this series.

Literally all you need is a chance. But the more important thing is: What are the Oilers’ chances of winning Game 4 on Saturday and sending this series back to Florida?

I’d say 50/50. And that’s a lot better than 3%.

As far as that CFL game goes, the pupil outshone the master as Ottawa’s Dru Brown outplayed Bomber quarterback Zach Collaros in leading the RedBlacks to an improbable 23-19 win in a rainstorm.

At least, that’s what the stats show, and the Bombers are off to their first 0-2 start since 2016.

These early games are impossible to predict and these can’t be the real Blue Bombers. I’m wondering if these are even the real RedBlacks?

But another thing I know about the CFL is this: wins in the first month of the season count just as much as those in the last.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

It goes to show what good management in NHL can do. We started attending games in Sunrise back in 2010… mostly empty building and fans that had no idea about the game. It’s been a cool experience being a part of this. Downside is we can’t get $65 prime seats anymore. LOL
