Friday Commentary: Maybe Later

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – It was fantastic to be back in the hockey arena on Thursday, covering Day 1 of Florida Panthers training camp. It’s an exciting time of year; optimism is in the air, and everybody’s in first place. (Same as the junior leagues, whose seasons begin tonight).
It was also great to sit in on Paul Maurice’s first news conference of the season, and have him answer my questions about the back-up goalie battle.
Pinch me.
#2 – Somewhere along the way a football guy said to me that halftime adjustments in football are overrated, and I fell for it. He couldn’t have been more wrong, and he probably isn’t even still around anymore.
On Thursday Night Football, the Bills and Dolphins were tied 14-14 at halftime but Buffalo outscored Miami 17-7 over the second half and went on to win 31-21. Adjustments won them the game, like they do in most games.
I expected to wake up to the news that Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel had been fired.
Maybe later today.
#3 – It feels like every weekend is jam-packed full of BIG games in Canadian football. The Roughriders are off but that should just funnel Saskatchewan football fans’ attention to Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon where the Rams visit the Huskies in a Hardy Cup preview Friday night.
It doesn’t get bigger than this as far as regular season games go in Canada West. Wish I was there!
As for the CFL, we’ve mentioned that the league is in the homestretch now and this weekend’s games are all tantalizing, even if the Riders aren’t playing. The games feature playoff jockeying, desperate teams, and backup QBs getting key starts.
And #4 – Thank gosh the Regina Rams Alumni Facebook page posted a photo of franchise icons Frank McCrystal, Ed Bankowski, Paul Barnby and Doug McKillop together in Southern Ontario for this weekend’s Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies!
Otherwise I’d have had no idea it was going on.
