Friday Commentary: No Apologies
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or so thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – You can all this summer the “No Apology Tour” for Corey Mace and his Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Green & White improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2013 on Thursday night, with a 30-23 victory over Toronto at Mosaic Stadium.
Did Argos QB Cameron Dukes implode? Or did Mace’s defense take the game away by forcing five turnovers?
Doesn’t matter. And like most of the Riders’ wins, they don’t have to apologize for it.
#2 – Dukes looked overwhelmed last night. That caused suspended Argos QB Chad Kelly to take to Twitter, basically celebrating his back-up’s struggles.
That’s evidence to me – and likely to the CFL too – that Kelly hasn’t learned a damn thing.
A lot of people never do.
And Dukes had better get better, fast.
#3 – I missed a lot of Thursday’s Rider game while enjoying the company at the Moose Jaw Warriors Alumni Golf social.
There was a time I’d have been as welcome there as a skunk in a submarine but times change!
And talking to those former Warriors players and coaches, it became evident that we didn’t realize the impact we in the media were having on them back in the day.
Just speaking for myself, I never thought broadcasting games and writing over all those years was particularly noble (especially compared to the Mental Health & Addiction Recovery work I’m doing now) but it had a positive impact on those players.
And for that, I’m grateful.
And #4 – We’ll dawn the headset again today for a doubleheader at Ross Wells Park in Moose Jaw as the Miller Express hosts the Swift Current 57’s in a WCBL doubleheader.
Maybe we’ll impact some people today or, maybe, we’ll just have fun at the ballpark.
It’s a win either way.
