FRIDAY COMMENTARY – NO CLOSED DOORS

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

Ending this week feeling pretty grateful.

Remember this phrase: There’s no such thing as closed doors; only redirections.

I was a little bummed this spring that it didn’t work out for our TV show to go to either the Centennial Cup or Memorial Cup, to broadcast live from these tournaments I love so much.

So this evening I’ll be headed back to Florida.

Oh ya … back into a hotbed of the Stanley Cup Playoffs where the Panthers are up 2-0 on the Toronto Maple Leafs and are hosting Game 3 at FLA Live Arena Sunday night. I’ve talked with the Panthers and they said they’ve saved my seat in the press box.

And our show will broadcast live from the Stanley Cup all next week with special guests beginning with Panthers & NHL Network analyst Bill Lindsay on Monday, live from The Beach House in Pompano Beach.

A coincidence? They say there are none.

Nor is it a fluke that Florida’s up 2-0 in this series. I’ve heard people say they feel sorry for the Leafs – who’ve been out-goaltended so far – but I don’t.

Sorry, but in sports terms, I don’t feel sorry for anybody. I’ve been with teams that have had the worst of the worst luck and nobody felt sorry for us.

The Leafs would be best served to look in the mirror at their own mistakes rather than spend the majority of their postgame news conferences complaining about the refs.

Apparently Panthers forward Sam Bennett is a big meanie.

What I know is Bennett was part of a Panthers team which got their clock cleaned by the veteran Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 2 last year. They learned a real tough lesson in what it takes to persevere and get the upper hand.

I was there for that series too.

Funny how sports imitates life.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

The teams that win are the teams that are supposed to win. It’s why Hockey is the best – nobody flukes out and wins a championship, and you need all guys going. Wendel Clarke was interviewed. He even said about Matt Tkachuk – don’t engage with him because believe me he wants you to engage. Clarke came out of that era with Rick Tochet, Keith Tkachuk, Cam Neely, and just and endless list of wrecking balls. I love the Toronto Maple Leafs – but if Matt Tkachuk took their lunch money per diem honestly they’d all be standing there watching.… Read more »

I’m a Canadian and I’m cheering for the Panthers – just because I’m tired of hearing all the whining the Leafs fans are doing about the “dirty” plays not being called. Gimmie a break. I wonder how many of these complaining Leafs fans used to cheer for guys like Domi, Belak, Baumgartner, Clark, Tucker, McCabe, Corson, Orr, etc. Face it Leafs fans, your current team is soft.

In another time you could basically say “I’m a House Boy, but I’ll be cheering for Massa” – and it’s because of this Canadian self loathing the country as P.P would state appears to be broken.

Toronto is going to come back and win that series. They’ll take both games in Florida.

In the playoffs…throw the puck at the net! It’s amazing what happens!
