A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – It may well go down as the greatest Stanley Cup Final ever. It’s certainly on the way to that. The Oilers beat Florida 5-4 in OT Thursday night on a Leon Draisaitl goal, tying the series up 2-2.

That’s three of four games going to overtime and this series is very much in doubt heading back to Edmonton for Game 5 on Saturday.

#2 – I’ve gotta dole out some credit here. My friend Adrian Rainey of the Rainey Day Podcast in West Palm Beach said Draisaitl would be the X-factor in this series. He was right. Meanwhile here in Moose Jaw it feels like absolutely everybody has an opinion on this series. Leaving Ross Wells Park after Thursday’s Millers baseball game, the guys were saying, “The Oilers got it now!”

Obviously, those guys have no idea. But it’s fun to be part of something that matters so much to people.

#3 – The question Thursday night was, “Who starts in goal for Edmonton in Game 5?” given the fact Stuart Skinner was yanked in Game 4. It seems like a no-brainer that Calvin Pickard would get the call but as ESPN College Game Day’s Lee Corso famously says:

“Not so fast.”

#4 – Week 2 in the CFL opened with Winnipeg routing BC 34-20. All I can say is, with hockey and baseball going on, I didn’t get a chance to watch a play of it.

Thank God for highlights.

And #5 – Hats off to Regina Rams icon Frank McCrystal who was among those named to the 2025 Canadian Football Hall of Fame class on Thursday.

Well-deserved. But there wasn’t a Roughrider in the bunch, which, as far as I’m concerned isn’t great for business for the CFL. And Kent Austin remains a snub.

Sounds like a great topic for today’s RP Show.

Mr. Kent Austin, a very astute man with a great cerebral knowledge of professional football. He was always very entertaining to watch on the field of play, a winner through and through.

Kent Austin deserves to be in the hall. What reasons are there for him to be ostracized?

A few things – He dared to ask for his worth – He would not for 3 seconds let alone 1 cotton the absolute degenerate rubes that ran Regina back in the day. Trust me those people were probably working for Baal that’s how demonic they were. – He signed an extension based on shipping out Tom Burgess. All because he had the audacity to not let his wife take crap from the afore mentioned rubes. Fast forward Tom Burgess wins a Grey Cup with Winnipeg. He goes to BC and wasn’t about to play back up to Danny McManus.… Read more »
