Friday Commentary: Play ball!

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – Happy Sports Equinox, if you observe! We’re in that two week window out of the year where all four of the Big 4 sports – NFL, NHL, MLB & NBA – are playing. It can feel like a lot, but it’s also a heckuva lot of fun …
#2 – The World Series opens Friday night with Game 1 in Toronto between the Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Jays named their starting pitcher – Trey Yesavage – on Thursday while the Dodgers tabbed Blake Snell on Wednesday. A kid we’d never heard of until two months ago against a 2-time Cy Young Award winner.
Great!
If there ever was a David vs Goliath story, it’s this World Series. The good news is, there’s no pressure on Toronto cuz nobody expects them to win.
Play ball.
#3 – The final week of the CFL regular season kicks off tonight with a Friday doubleheader. Despite all the combinations of what could happen with the standings, it all boils down to this: Hamilton can clinch first in the East with a win over Ottawa, and BC can clinch second in the West with a win at Saskatchewan.
I expect both things to happen, and then we can get ready for the playoffs.
And #4 – I’ve gotta constantly remind myself that we’re not even 10 games into the NHL season because as usual, people are drawing conclusions and sucking me into it.
The Flames have tied a franchise mark for their worst start ever, the Chicago Blackhawks are in the top half of the league and upset the Lightning in Tampa Bay last night, and the Utah Mammoth look like the ’85 Oilers. Oh, and the Montreal Canadiens are in first place in the Atlantic Division.
How many of these trends are here to stay? We’ll know over the next month.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
