FRIDAY COMMENTARY – THE RIGHT TO BE WRONG

A coupla, three thoughts headed into the weekend.

First, as the Regina Pats prepare to visit Swifty on Friday and a lot of eyes in the hockey world remain on the Connor Bedard Show, I think we’re all really starting to focus on who will land that number one lottery pick in the NHL Draft.

If you look at the standings, you couldn’t prove anyone is trying to tank other than the Columbus Blue Jackets who sit dead-last and have lost three in a row.

I never thought for a second Connor might end up in Ohio and if he does, we’ll never hear from him again.

My wish is that he ends up in Arizona and have predicted that he will for three years. He might be the only thing that can save hockey in the Desert.

Second, the Edmonton Oilers won again Thursday night; 5-3 over Tampa making it five in a row.

Was it not just two weeks ago that Oiler fans were demanding changes and wondering why GM Ken Holland hasn’t made any moves? And demanding answers?

Holland did exactly nothing and now the Oilers are one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

People really need to settle down.

And lastly, this Ivan Provorov situation in Philadelphia this week is proof that we really haven’t come that far as a society.

Nothing really to do with the Flyers defenceman, who refused to put on the team’s Pride jersey or take warmup due to his own religious reasons.

But it was more the hate and vitriol that the story cued from hockey fans and society alike. I don’t think we’ve ever going to all get along.

Provorov has the right to do whatever he chooses, especially when it comes to religion. The fact is, I don’t agree with it and discrimination of any kind is a real problem in this world we may never get over.

Have you ever been excluded from something just because of the way you were made? It doesn’t feel real good.

But people will always have the right to be wrong.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

I am grateful the Philadelphia fan base, media, social justice warriors realize they can be wrong. That’s a good first step in their development. The player in question flat out doesn’t have to have anything pushed on him and vice versa. That’s where it should end. Yet it doesn’t. “They” are not satisfied to just publicly shame him oh no….it has to be a benching to an all our rescind his contract..as long as “they” get their pound of flesh. Secularism/social justice is the new fanatical “religion”. There is a Supreme ruler; underlings to carry out the bidding: tight dogma… Read more »

What are you talking about? The point I’m making and there is a point. The point is a wedge issue is presented and it’s done in a way that makes an organization be all things to all people. Now the idea is an organization should be representative and supportive of all the communities that support it. For instance. There is a very prominant Car Dealership that goes into North Central Regina to clean up back alleys, pick up needles etc, etc, etc, Now I dare one of those employees to say, “you know I work for a living so spending… Read more »

I finally agree with Obama, wow! Provorov didn’t make a big stink about it, he respectfully declined to participate. Big deal. Leave the guy alone
