Friday Commentary: Zactly Right

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – It was an upset on Thursday Night Football. The Houston Texans stunned the Buffalo Bills 23-19 with a backup quarterback at the helm and you know what struck me first?
Former Rider coach Danny Barrett is the assistant head coach of the Texans and had to have had a hand in getting backup QB Davis Mills prepared for the last three games (all Houston wins).
Danny Barrett for the Riders Plaza of Honour? Think about it. He is the longest-serving coach in Roughriders history.
#2 – Don’t look now but U.S. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that’s usually where the wheat separates from the chaff. Not a good sign for the Oilers, who lost in overtime at Tampa Bay last night. At .500, Edmonton is not in a playoff spot. Not even close.
Oh, and by the way, the Winnipeg Jets are the oldest team in the NHL. Not sure why I felt the need to point that out. The Montreal Canadiens are the youngest.
#3 – The Little Grey Cup is being played at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday. The Vanier Cup features another Saskatchewan-Montreal match-up with the Huskies vs the Carabins.
I’m most interested to see how many show up at Mosaic Stadium for the match.
And #4 – The Oilers are in Sunrise on Saturday for a rematch of the past two Stanley Cup Finals but I won’t be there. I’m jumping on a jet bound for Palm Springs, CA and the wedding of my colleague Darren Dupont.
There aren’t many places I haven’t been, but Palm Springs is one of them. Very much looking forward to that. And grateful to see Moose, who’s afforded me some of the best opportunities of my life.
As Ronnie Milsap sings, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
