FRIDAY SHOW RECAP
Friday’s show was Episode #20 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:
- Rod was joined by Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch as they talked football and CFL for the full two hours. They discussed Winnipeg’s 28-21 home win over Edmonton in Canada’s Game of the Week on Thursday.
- They went deep on Bomber rookie sensation Lucky Whitehead – a former Dallas Cowboy – and his 2-touchdown performance against the Esks. They discussed his history in the NFL and how he’s exactly the type of player the CFL should be looking for in the new era.
- Whitehead’s emergence spawned the daily poll question of: Will Lucky Whitehead lead the Blue Bombers to the 2019 Grey Cup? 77% of respondents said “no”.
- Rod talked about Thursday’s Jon Ryan Charity Golf Classic benefitting Regina Minor Football and the Bob Ryan Scholarship Fund, and how a good time was had by all. Rod said it turned into a Ryan Family Reunion, which was a blast to be a part of. It’s a huge family and Barb Ryan is the proud matriarch.
- Rider Hall of Famer Nate Davis (DT, 2001-2006) was in the bunker and talked about the 0-2 Riders and how the team is in good hands with his former teammate, GM Jeremy O’Day.
- “The Big Dog” had some stern words for the CFL over its handling of the Simoni Lawrence-Zach Collaros situation and said a much longer suspension would’ve sent a better message regarding player safety.
- Argos GM Jim Popp joined the show via video conference from Toronto in advance of the Argos-Riders Week 3 clash on Canada Day at Mosaic Stadium. He said he hopes his team learned from its 64-14 shellacking at the hands of Hamilton in Week 2. Popp feels the Boatmen will have a much better showing on Monday in Regina.
- Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone made his third appearance on the show and discussed all things CFL. Like most, he feels it’s far too early to make any judgments on the Riders but feels the signing of QB Cody Fajardo was a very astute move by the O’Day/Dickenson regime.
- Be sure to join us on Monday at 10:00 am MT for a special pregame show in advance of the Riders and Argos. Lynch and Vanstone will join once again.
