NHL
The Winnipeg Jets are headed back to the playoffs. Gabe Vilardi had a hat trick as Winnipeg beat Calgary 5-2 Thursday night and eliminated the Flames from the wild-card race. Elsewhere in the NHL, Steven Stamkos and Nicholas Paul had two goals apiece to lift Tampa Bay to a 7-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens. And, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 shots for his fifth shutout of the season in Florida’s 6-0 win over the Ottawa Senators.
There are six games in the NHL Friday night but only one features a Canadian team. The Edmonton Oilers host the Colorado Avalanche. Edmonton has 95 points and sits second in the Pacific Division but has yet to clinch a post-season berth.
