Rookie Patrik Laine scored twice on the power play as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Dallas Stars 4-1. The Jets have scored five power-play goals this season, with the 18-year-old Laine netting four of them. Kyle Connor also scored his first NHL goal for Winnipeg and defenceman Tyler Myers scored 15 seconds into the first period.

The Montreal Canadiens are on a roll. Max Pacioretty scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as Montreal earned its sixth straight victory, 3-1 against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. Carey Price stopped 29 shots for his fourth win in four starts.

Mitch Marner dished out three assists and Frederik Andersen bounced back from a bad last start as the Maple Leafs beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 for just their second win of the season. Marner set up Tyler Bozak twice and also helped James van Riemsdyk. Andersen stopped 29 shots two nights after giving up a career-worst seven goals.

The Montreal Impact will be hosting an MLS playoff game this Sunday. Matteo Mancosu had a pair of goals as the Impact dominated DC United for a 4-2 victory in the knockout round to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Montreal will welcome the New York Red Bulls to Saputo Stadium in the first of a two-legged semi.

The Tennessee Titans had their highest point total of the season in a 36-22 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Marcus Mariota threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns and had a 148-point-1 passer rating, the second-highest of his career. DeMarco Murray ran for 123 yards and a touchdown.

A Nevada judge sentenced former NFL star Darren Sharper to as many as eight years in prison for attempted sexual assault in Las Vegas as part of a four-state plea deal that could keep him behind bars for nearly two decades. Sharper was ordered to serve the Nevada sentence concurrently with an 18-year sentence he has already begun on state and federal charges in Louisiana.
