GEORGE REED: “THEY NEED TO SIGN DARIAN DURANT!”

Roughriders legend George Reed stopped by 620 CKRM’s SportsCage on Tuesday to promote the upcoming George Reed Foundation Gala on December 4 at the Conexus Arts Centre.

The Canadian Football Hall of Famer also commented on the hottest topic in Riderville right now, the ongoing contract negotiations between the Riders and pending free agent quarterback Darian Durant.

“They need Darian Durant to sign!” Reed exclaimed. “I think they need a leader out there and I don’t see another quarterback available in Canada that has what he has.  Hopefully they’ve got enough sense to go ahead and sign him.

“I thought last year we had four or five guys that we should’ve signed and kept here to bring the other guys along, and we didn’t.  So I hope they don’t make the same mistake this year.”

Tickets for the George Reed Foundation Gala are on sale now at www.georgereedfoundation.com or from Laverne Cuddington at 306-541-8458.

George Reed was a former president of the CFLPA and a great advocate for the players back in his day. He would have made a fine agent for players and I am sure Darian Durant feels very good to hear George speaking out on his behalf.

George George George… shouldn't you be getting ready for the Saturday night polkarama dance at the casino? Let the new regime handle their business, they know what they do. Durant a slow no quick read off the hike so so quarter-back, always has been, always will be.

2nd Anon….. George Reed has forgotten more about Football then your bonehead will ever know . What he has just said is exactly right and the Riders should get it done .

I find it incongruous that the same people who say 'football is the ultimate team game' then use stats to assess a QB. I have no idea how good DD is right now. Put BLM on the Riders this year and then assess him by how many wins he got. (BTW … don't diss George Reed for his opinion and then state your own behind the cover of 'anon')

I'D SAY THIS DURANT SITUATION WAS STARTING TO POSS ME OFF… BUT THAT WOULD BE A LIE… IT HAS BEEN DRIVING ME NUTS SINCE ABOUT 48 HOURS AFTER THE SEASON STARTED. FUELED BY THAT AVERAGE MEDIOCRE QB COMMENT OR WHATEVER JONES SAID.

IF THEY CAN'T GET SOMETHING FIGURED OUT WITH DD, WE MIGHT AS WELL BE DRIVING ALONG AT NIGHT WITH NO HEADLIGHTS.

I think one of the issues that no one has touched on is that Jones is the type of person who needs to make there own decisions and does not like being told what to do. I also think he demonstrates this tact to the limit and would even purposely do something because it's his idea or way, and not necessarily the best way. A common identifier for this is "big little man syndrome". The decision should be based on who is the best chance to win opening next year, and that's DD. Make the deal.

Jones can set a precedent and take a pay cut himself for being left out of his own party.

I hate when people chime in and have no clue what they are talking about. If you actually listen to what both sides are saying you will know "pay cut" has nothing to do with the negotiation. So anyone mentioning that and throwing it at Jones has a different agenda.

George is saying the same thing Chris Jones has said. Sign Durant.
