GETZLAF LEAVES PRACTICE

The 0-8 Saskatchewan Roughriders were dealt another blow on Wednesday when veteran receiver Chris Getzlaf left the field with a leg injury.

Getzlaf missed Saturday’s 34-31 loss to Calgary with a foot injury and it appears Wednesday’s setback was related to that.

“All I know is he’ll be out for this game,” said Rider coach Corey Chamblin after the workout.  “I don’t know the length of time he’ll be out.  We wanted to see today if he could play this week but it didn’t react the way he wanted it to.  It reacted negatively so he’ll be out this week.”

That means for a second-straight week Getzlaf will be replaced by rookie receiver Alex Carroll.  The Queen’s product says it’s tough to see a teammate and friend go down, but it’s time for him to step up.

“Yeah for sure,” Carroll admitted.  “You gotta feel bad when a guy goes down or can’t play.  All the same it’s my opportunity and my chance to shine.  I have to make the most of it.”

The Riders visit the 4-4 Ottawa RedBlacks Sunday at 2:00.

Shoulda kept Pidchalski!! Less $$ beter shape. Getzlaf is known to other players as "part time" due to his lack of effort at practise.

Getz always has a big game against Calgary. Missed that one so its time to let the rookies see if they can play. Alex Carrol looks like a keeper. Whats that old saying or curse? Oh ya…"may you live in interesting times" BINGO LOL

On Sportscage – everyone knows and agrees that the defense is the problem !!!!!

Who is the DC ???

Who is the HC ????

WEll its the same person – Corey Chamblin

When will people admit that he is responsible and the problem. Corey Chamblin should have been fired long ago and on any other team he would be long gone. WHY are people so scared to admit that he has got to go.

So much for getting something for Getzlaf before the trade deadline. Man that guy has been hurt alot in the last 3 years. Too bad. He was impressive in his prime

Because the guys on the Sports Cage know there is no one that can step in and replace him at this point, plus the players are still going all out for him – those that are not injured in any event.
